Billâs a Liar
Sorry for the long explanation-- Long story short, Bill seems like a nice guy, but I feel itâs necessary to call out his dishonesty for lying straight to my face.
The warranty company I used wasnât communicating with me, so I brought my vehicle in to this shop after 30 days of purchased, on 9/9, because I thought the warranty was for 30 days and wanted to get things moving. Bill took a look at it and confirmed the transmission issue.
I ended up getting a call from the warranty company that evening and got the agreement paperwork, so the next morning 9/10 I ran over to Cedar Transmission, expressed my concern with the timing and wanted to do everything we could to make sure we could still run it under the warranty. Hayden assured me everything would be fine and they would still be able to use the warranty if it was approved. I sent them all the warranty paperwork while I was there, and because I was still concerned I asked multiple times that all this would be relayed to Bill who I had worked with the day before and seemed like the manager.
Nearly two weeks later, on 9/22 Bill left me a message letting me know they had finished the work on the transmission. I called in and asked if they were able to process it under the warranty. Bill said that just had come to his attention, but it was too late to run it under the warranty. I explained how I had come in the day after dropping off the vehicle, expressed my concern, and Hayden said everything would be relayed to him. Bill sounded unaware, so I continued, telling him while I was there on 9/10 I had emailed them the warranty paperwork. He checked their email while on the phone with me and was audibly surprised to see that I had indeed sent that email on the 10th.
Clearly Hayden didnât relay our exchange to Bill. This isnât a large shop, so the lack of communication is frustrating especially when I expressed my concern about the situation and asked everything to be relayed to Bill multiple times. Bill said he would look into this and get back to me.
After a couple weeks of trying to settle things with the warranty company, ultimately it was declined because the work was already done. What really bothered me though is when I picked up the vehicle, Bill tried to play it off like he knew about the warranty the whole time. He told me they werenât able to return the parts I ordered 9/9, so thereâs nothing they could have done and it was the warranty companyâs fault for not communicating with me. If thatâs true, it wouldnât have matter that Hayden didnât communicate everything to Bill and they should have just owned the poor communication, but honestly I donât trust Bill because he wanted to sound professional and lied to my face telling me he was informed about the warranty by Hayden the second day I came in. I know thatâs not true because of our exchange on the phone when he was unaware of the warranty paperwork.
I still think if they would have communicated on the 10th we could have figured something out. Maybe the parts hadn't shipped yet? Even if the parts were nonrefundable, if I took that loss and paid the shop for them while processing the warranty, it still would have saved me money.
Mistakes happen, but I don't like being lied to.
EDIT: Yeah, your claim I came in "DAYS later" is undeniably another lie. It was the next morning. That can be proven with receipts and the email I sent while talking with Hayden in the shop.
I didnât have much to on with the warranty since they hadn't responded to my many emails asking for the agreement. When they finally replied the evening of the 9th (the day I dropped off the vehicle) and confirmed the transmission was covered, I came back the next morning and explained everything.
Regardless, the reason I wrote this review wasnât because the warranty was denied, but because Bill lied about knowing about it longer than he did. When I spoke to him on the phone, he was unaware Iâd come in on the 10th, my conversation with Hayden, and the paperwork I'd sent.

Read moreMy transmission on my truck was starting to have issuesâthe tough part was I living in SLC and the truck was down at SUU with my son, going to college. After looking around the web, hoping to find a decent place to look at it, we settled on Cedar Transmissions & Auto. The online reviews seemed good, but it was still a leap of faith being so far away.
I was pleasantly surprised with how helpful and informative Bill (the co-owner) was. He gave us a rundown of all the issues and our options to get it repaired. He kindly put up with my questions, helped me understand the issues and gave us confidence that they'd take care of us.
They did just that. The repair took just under two weeks. The estimate and final cost were right where he said they'd be.
A few days later, Bill reached out to me via text just to see how the truck was doing and to see if we were satisfied. As luck would have it, that evening, the truck started having issues similar to what was happening before the repair. I reached out the next morning and let him know that we were having issues and we'd drop the truck off that afternoon.
Bill was super responsive, keeping us posted as they diagnosed the issue and worked with the manufacturer to secure the warranty. They had the issue resolved and the truck running again in less than 24 hours.
It's also been a few months since all that happened. The truck is running great and we are super happy with how it's working. Bill even texted me this week (months later) to see how the truck is running.
The team there was always helpful and informativeâputting up with my non-mechanic questions and walking me through the process. I feel like they treated us fairly and honestly. I'm grateful we found themâI'm a true believer in Cedar Transmission & Automotive. Thanks for all the...
Read moreThese people are parts changers and not very good at that. Took my Toyota Tacoma there the transmission was shot they ordered a replacement from Trans star installed it that took 5 weeks took the truck to California 4weeks later in Vegas started smelling gear oil pulled of saw it had a small leak could not find the source when we got to Victorville started losing gears got it in 4th and limped it to a shop , they found the failure was due to improper installation (how you improperly install a transmission is beyond me) Trans star honored the warranty They sent out a replacement but they only pay for $1000 on labor so I was able to get it swapped out for an additional $200 of my cash yeah love it when you have to pay a shop to fix another shops mess. Steer clear. Shop manager is no peach he's a peace of work as well he will look you in the eyes and lie without hesitation. Your kidding right you told me you would order a replacement it doesn't cost more than a bench build I wanted to know what failed dissatisfied with service the transmission failed do to proper installation like I mentioned lies without hesitation. Post mortem from tech states rear seal damaged during install causing transmission fluid to fill cavity between transfer case transmission ran dry causing failure that's on you and no pre existing condition here. I was never offered any assistance by your shop I was told I couldn't have my preferred shop do the warranty work had to take it to where you referred me (wrong) but I now know why you said that. So just so I'm clear when your parts changers are changing parts the don't inspect the complete drive line system if they do they leave pre-existing conditions for...
