Hair We Are — Local services in Charleston

I’ve been going to Hair We Are for a while now, and I’ve gotta say—this place is still amazing! While Rachel is no longer a hairstylist (and I miss her magic!), I’ve started going to Haleigh P, and I can’t recommend her enough! She’s especially fantastic for my alternative girlies—if you’re looking for something bold, creative, and unique, she’s your gal. Haleigh is sooo sweet, communicates expectations perfectly, and truly brings your vision to life.

The first two pics in this review were by Rachel, but the second two (the calico hair) are all Haleigh’s incredible work!

Hair We Are overall is such a gem—friendly staff, a super clean and cute storefront, and booking is a breeze with their online system (perfect for us socially awkward gals who hate making phone calls!). Whether you’re looking for something classic or alternative, I promise you’ll be in great hands here.

Rachel is the BEST!! Finding a hairstylist that can do alternative styles in WV is not always the easiest, but Rachel is def your gal for all that and more! Super sweet, and communicates really well expectations. Truly a hair wizard.

I went in to lighten the balayage I already had and get a hair cut. When I went in and sat down Georgia asked me what I wanted and I said I wanted to go a little bit lighter. She told me no and said my hair would fall out. I disagreed and asked again for the service I drove almost 2 hours for. She said she would lighten the half inch of roots that grew out but not touch the already bleached part. I asked again for the service I booked and she said she wanted a second opinion. She called another employee over and the employee said it was be fine but she still didn't want to do it. Eventually she agreed to do the half inch of my roots and about half an inch of my already bleached hair. I thought this meant she would be blending it, I was wrong. I noticed there wasn't very much foil in my hair and she laughed and said this is the best balayage because she doesn't have to do very much. After washing my hair and drying she said that my hair could've handled the service I asked for (as if I didn't try telling her that) and told me to come back to get it done. My hair is so uneven I literally have bands of bleached parts in my hair. To top it off she never cut my hair and I got charged for a full balayage even though not even a full 2 inches of my hair was touched!! First my appointment had to be changed to someone I did not pick about 6 hours before. Then the stylist did not give me anything close to what I wanted. I asked for a layered flow and showed an example video that showed all sides and was given a mullet. It then took several more tries to get her to cut it down and to make it anywhere acceptable. After all that it was not layered well and uneven all around. My hair is awful and I can not stand to even step outside with how it looks.

Update: They have contacted me and have scheduled a new appointment for them to try to help fix it and give me something I like. I got my hair fixed with the original person I scheduled. Even though I ended up with something different than what I wanted but it turned out so much better and I...
