Lowes Foods of West Ashley — Local services in Charleston

If you are not familiar with Lowes Food stores you may be surprised by the prices. They are a bit more expensive than other grocers. The stores are nicely set up and the food is a little "fancier" than other grocers as well, which makes for a fun shopping experience. What scares me about this location is that it has a LOT of same poor traits that BiLo had....like food being expired. I blamed BiLo on poor management, and unfortunately the management has stayed the same. I was so excited when BiLo closed....never thinking Lowes would take over and keep a manager who couldn't control the quality of food being sold. From expired dairy items, to under-cooked prepared food....BiLo wasn't a place I could trust...and now I'm a little skeptical about Lowes as we have already had a handful of bad experiences with expired/bad food. I still go down the road to Harris Teeter where I can trust the quality of food I purchase. Sorry Lowes, but until you get a better grip on quality control, I can't make you my grocery store of choice.

On a recent trip to this store, I was able to meet some of the regional store managers who happened to be here. They were very nice, very helpful and very concerned and understanding. I think they are going to make some very positive changes in the store. Therefore I am upgrading my review to four stars!! Don’t let...

Went in to pickup a smash cake for my kid. Wanted the 4" one as it was less expensive and the right size. The person behind the counter at the bakery said they could do a color specific cake for me if I wanted to order one instead of buy one from the case. After finishing the order for the small cake, she told me that with the smash cake, I had the option to receive a 1/4 sheet pan cake for free. I asked her to verify that the sheet pan cake was free with the purchase of the smash cake. She confirmed so I moved forward with it. They don't advertise this on the website so I wasn't able to verify what was being sold to me. Fast forward to pickup of the cakes, full on bait and switch and she told me the $28 sheet cake was the one I was buying and the $8 smash cake was the free one. So disappointed with this sales tactic. I purchased, but I will not be purchasing cakes from this...

I'm loving having a Lowes foods nearby. There were a few where I used to live, and they're a great store. I'm hoping this location will open a coffee shop inside like the others have because their coffee is fantastic. Great selection, similar to Harris Teeter. I do miss Bi-Lo but I wouldn't want any other grocery store to replace it besides Lowes. Really a fantastic switch. EDIT: they did put in the coffee bar along with the many other amenities! So exciting. Lowes will probably be my new coffee spot. The people who work at the coffee bar are the best and always make the most delicious drinks! They have a lot of flavors and the price is 2-3 dollars cheaper than other coffee shops. I think the bad reviews are unwarranted and a lot likely came from the transition period where the store was disorganized....
