I try to buy local but every time I go to Perkins I find the service lacking. Let's compare Perkins to the big bad box store Home Depot. At Perkins you walk to the back of the store, order what you need, (haven't seen what you are buying yet) you go out in the yard and search for what you bought. When you ask for help, they point in a general direction and say "over there". Home Depot, everything is under one roof, the isles and racks are clearly marked. If you need help an employee actually takes you to the product you are looking for. Then after you have found what you need you pay for your items. If you drive over because no one will talk to you on the phone you find that they have a very pedestrian stock of lumber of mediocre quality. Zero high quality materials or finish grade hardwoods/softwoods. When I found a young person who worked there and was willing to help, they had know knowledge of lumber at all despite working out in the yard.
