Visiting family in the area and we wanted to go bowling. Having great memories of Compton’s Lanes from my youth through my early 20’s. I was excited to see the newly remodeled Alley 304. The people who work there are still as nice as ever, the young man at the counter was great, shoes were clean and in good condition, and the bowling balls were in decent shape (although ball selection is very slim). The place definitely has it’s downsides now though. Temps were in the mid-80’s outside, and it wasn’t much better inside. We were sweating before we even started bowling. They removed the step-down that formerly separated the bowling area from the common areas; while it may seem nice to have the step gone, that “step” served a crucial purpose in building’s passive ventilation system. The ceiling fans at high speed and few standing fans that were running, did little to mitigate the heat…by halfway through our first game, we were pretty miserable (and we’re all in pretty good shape!). That wasn’t even the worst part though…when they gave the place its “facelift”, they went to the “pins on strings” system. UGH! Despite what some say, the strings most definitely do affect the physics of the game and it sucks. It was 6pm on a Saturday and the place was dead. I get it, places have to keep up with the times, but cutting corners isn’t the way. I hope we were just there on an “off” night and this decades-old Clarksburg institution isn’t on...
Read moreMy wife and I recently took our basketball team, that we coach, here for our end-of-the-season celebration. The team is made up by 3rd graders and one 4th grader. The entiry group consisted of 29 individuals and Alley 304 welcomed us graciously. My wife called ahead, one week precisely, for our reservation, and after two more phone calls, and a couple small text messages Alley 304 was all set to help us give our team a wonderful nite of bowling and pizza. The new owners of the bowling alley did and excellent job for us and made every effort they could to help us in anyway that we needed. On the night that we were there Alley 304 had all lanes rolling. There was 3 separate birthday parties happening at the same times as ours and also a great many of individual families and friends that were just there for their own night of bowling. So, Alley 304 definitely had their hands full and as far as my wife and I could tell they did not have one disappointed patron the whole evening...THANK-YOU, TO EVERYONE AT ALLEY 304, FOR...
Read moreAwesome bowling alley! While bowling has never been my passion, Compton Lanes was one of the few things people had to do around here with their free time. Alley 304 has done an amazing job of restoring the old Compton Lanes building and unlike the owners of Compton Lanes, Alley 304 has done a great job continually improving their establishment instead of letting it fall into decline. Their kitchen has many different options for food and I hear they are hoping to add specials one day! Rentals are very affordable and the atmosphere is welcoming. If you're looking for a place to have an affordable night of fun with your family and friends,...
