Stanley River Retreat gets 5 stars AND the Moon! Speaking of stars & the moon; the views of both were spectacular! Views, views awe-inspiring views! Just sitting on the charming porch of my cabin, mere feet away from the river, while a hungry eagle flies along it, searching for fish, seemed surreal. Where is David Attenborough hiding? This place is unique & yep…magical. It allows you to easily connect with the best of nature. It feels pure; untainted with commercialism. There’s no theme rides, crowds, waiting in lines or trash at this charming piece of heaven. The people here are genuine, kind, incredibly helpful and fun. Sharing time here with your soul family on gorgeous hikes, bike-rides, fishing or trekking through the snow, discovering the close hot springs or just sitting on the porch reading a book is as good as it gets. You can finish your day in the new sauna (it gets hot!) then into the cold plunge barrel, if you’re into heart attacks. Ha. Levie, what a delight you are! So glad you now own this piece of heaven. Your background in historical preservation, your eye for detail, quality, comfort and hospitality is perfectly reflected in the way you’ve subtly blended the original charming rustic pine log theme with the new comforts we love to take for granted: Quality new mattresses & linens, good wi-fi & cell phone service, heating that really does the job, plumbing that works, fresh water right out of the faucet that taste delicious, a well equipped kitchen. There was plenty of room to cook, had I wanted to. I preferred savoring the excellent coffee provided, while the views of the river, valley & mountains fed my soul. Ahhh. Our cabin (#25 ) was so spacious & impeccably clean, not a speck of mold in our new shower/tub. What a joy & so easy to share with my dear clean & tidy friend. Another Ahhh What an honor and gift it was to be able to share our weekend with other friends that were in the cabins at Stanley River Retreat. So many treasured memories were made. It seemed that everyone enjoyed their day’s adventures, when we shared them with each other on the large central porch on the big middle cabin. Inside that wonderful space we shared meals, stories & played hilarious games. I still grin every time I think of that! Thank you so much Levie, Nick and all the others for all you did to make my stay at SRR incredibly wonderful. I want to come back again and again. I almost hate to post this review because I’m afraid the secret will be out and I’ll never be able to get a reservation again! But, ok readers, I won’t be selfish. Deep sigh. Your welcome! Levie you & this special place definitely deserve to flourish. I truly love Stanley River Retreat and know everyone...

Cabin wasn’t cleaned and ready when I showed up 4 hours after my check in time. There is not on site person after hours apparently. I called the number that said to call and leave a voicemail if you needed immediate assistance. I called that number around five times and left two voicemails. I also sent text messages of the room that wasn’t ready. Finally two people showed up to clean the room and when I asked them to get the room next to it since it was available as well, they said that one is not clean either. I’m kind of confused as to why these things are available to book online when they’re not ready. The pictures that are available online also do not match the cabins that you reserve. I specifically booked rooms that had a sofa bed along with the bed and when we got to the room, it only had a bed in it. Make sure you check all of the details before you check in. There is no air-conditioning as well. The worst part was when the owner finally called me after I walked to the resort next door he said he’d call the owner. I spoke to the owner and all I got was an apology. I was told to go and relax by the river and it was 10pm at night already when the room was ready. There was no offer for a free night or anything to make up what had happened. That was a bit disappointing. I will not be going back...

Worst value of any place I’ve ever stayed. Cabin 24, which is NOT along the river, was 234$/night, plus 25$ dog fee, per dog, per night. That makes 284$ each night. When we arrived a little after 5pm, the cabin was extremely hot and the smoke alarm beeped incessantly. Despite asking after making the reservation, our dogs’ crates barely fit in the space. The web site claims guests can find a spot to sit and relax on the river even if the cabin is not riverfront. We did not find this to be true, as the riverfront cabins completely line the river, so you’d be in encroaching on those guests’ enjoyment, not to mention general awkwardness. No walking paths along the water near the property either. I do not recommend staying here. Don’t be a sucker like we were! Lower Stanley Motel right next door is a much better value for the exact...

This place is as good as it gets. You cannot beat the location - directly on the Salmon River in Lower Stanley, ID. The owner, Levie, was very attentive and kind. Her genuine love of this place was infectious. The cabins were so cute and had everything you need to be comfortable. There are several common areas to enjoy including seating areas, lawn games, BBQs, and fire pits. My 8 year old daughter loved putting her feet in the river to cool down. My husband and I enjoyed the quiet of the river in the morning. And we all enjoyed the grassy bank and stunning views during dinner. My daughter even spotted an otter playing in the river on two separate occasions! There was just something magical about this place - a small community of guests and their pets coming together with the common goal of connecting with mother nature. 5 stars for sure!!

If I could give this place 6 stars I would! We had an unbelievable experience staying here. We had car troubles and got stranded in Stanley for the night in the dead of winter. We called around and most places were booked up. We called Stanley River Retreat & Cabins around 7pm and they went so far as to arrange for the manager to come pick us up a couple miles away. They were also super accommodating by allowing us to only stay for one night when their minimum is supposed to be 2. We slept very well in the cozy beds with down pillows and the heat worked well. I was blown away in the morning when I stepped outside and saw the view from our cabin. The cabins are directly in front of the river and the view of the mountains is panoramic. I would have loved to stay here longer!
