This is a medium size (compared to other DOD gyms), well kept gym inside Peterson Airforce Base. If you are lucky enough to have a military credential or authorization to use this gym, do not pass on the opportunity. It has all you need to stay fit. The swimming pools are in an adjacent building and the bowling center as well, so in reality it is in a complex. It has all kind of machines, weight rooms, climbing room, running, steps, climbing, stretching machines and equipment, and there are a shakes bar in the first floor, second floor has a running track and some offices for nutrition consultation / advise (by medical referral is my understanding) and other rooms for other purposes. It is well organized and I believe that they conduct different classes as well (like yoga, zumba, etc), but I never have taken one, however they have fliers and documentation as soon as you enter. They have a big help desk at the front where they help you and will check your identification to ensure you can use the facilities. Bring your own towel. I did not see a sauna room ( they might have one, but I did not see it). I've seen bigger gyms in the Army, but this one is ok as well. Right outside they have tracks for running and exercise. Some hours are busier than others. It is a well rounded facility. Sometimes the base conduct exercises and simulations and they will lock you inside, so...
Read moreGreat gym! I've tried a few military gyms (both locally and out-of-state) and this is one of the best ones I've been to so far.
It can get a bit busy and crowded depending on the day and time you arrive because sometimes they just have mandatory training stuff going on, but for the most part it's pretty chill and spacious and definitely have most stuff you'd need. It's also 24/7 if you get a key card with the front desk for the side door access.
There's also a whole cross-fit section separate from the lifting area so overall I think it's a pretty well-equipped gym.
Note though: the staff is weird about dress codes and don't particularly follow the standard military one. Some people are chill and will literally not care about what anyone is wearing and some will come for you for things that aren't even on the list. Super inconsistent about it and it's odd but they seem more likely to come after you if you're wearing bright colors. Like, they're more lenient on the dress code as long as it's black or any dark colors...
Read moreGym has a lot of machines that keep going down for months. The sauna in the women’s locker room gets shut down a lot. The showers are in good shape but It would be nice if the locker rooms were updated they are very worn down. It’s in such poor shape it’s hard to tell if the cleaning the crews are doing make it clean. I’ve never seen a staff go around cleaning machines so be sure to wipe down constantly! The sled had gone missing twice when I tried to train with it. There’s not enough of certain machines in the same floor, so when it’s busy you constantly have to try and walk around to other rooms for a machine. The free weight room is great though, but I don’t think it gets cleaned! Good gym, but not great. I’ve been to ten bases and this is in the bottom five. Cleanliness of the equipment, would bring...
