I have been a patron of RNR for twenty years. I even worked there very briefly. I took figure skating and speed skating lessons with them, and I've known everyone who works there my whole life. I have been sitting here reading reviews and I see that people either love this place or absolutely hate it. I agree with about 50% of those people.
I was visiting family and hoping to get back in touch with my roots by visiting RNR with a friend recently on a Saturday night. I have never had a worse time in my life. They had a million people working, but none of them wearing garb so that you'd know they were staff members. The speakers sounded aged and broken and the music being played through them, while tasteful (for the most part...but it's always been that way), sounded absolutely awful.
The worst part was the children. I'm a mid-twenty-something and I know that skating rinks nowadays are for youngsters, so the fact that they were there didn't bother me. What bothered me was the way that they behaved. RNR used to have rules. While most of them were stupid to me (I was a child), I could see how they kept people SAFE. I never had to worry that I'd roll over GUM, that someone's HAT would come flying in my face, that children would be skating the WRONG DIRECTION and run into me...knocking me down so hard that I left with bruises. Best of all...Officer Polite used to walk around the skating rink making sure that we'd keep our feet from dangling onto the floor if we were not skating so we wouldn't trip anyone and HURT them. Why doesn't he do that anymore?
Why doesn't RNR implement SAFETY rules anymore? I'm disappointed. I made that clear to the staff before leaving that night, so I feel like this review shouldn't come as a shock. Sorry if this offends anyone. I honestly feel like 3 stars is being...
Read moreOn August 31, 2013 around 14:17 me, my family and friends visit this business for a great time. But while there we experienced some racial profiling from this so call Newton County law enforcement officer. She accused my son and his friends of opening and stealing things out of the lockers. I kept a close eye on my kids, while I was there. Because I saw some negative looks when we walk into this this place of business. The Officer also mention something about scared straight stating that she teaches a class on it and my kids and their friend's needed to be part of. At this point I was steaming red! I asked the young lady for her name and she replied by saying "no" in a very rude way. The whole time the owner/or person that was in charge stood there and watched her accuse my kids and their friends of something that was not true. My family has been supporting this business for years and I have even had my son 8th birthday party there. She was going to kick us out, but we decided to leave because it upset my daughter and my son friend. (They were in tears). I will report this to the highest authority and make sure justice...
Read moreFirst time going here and we will never go back. Had my grandsons Birthday party and we were very disappointed. While we were getting the kids ready for their cupcakes, the woman that worked there was putting her hands all over the Happy Birthday letters and touching the cupcakes while my daughter was handing them out. She was in the way the whole time while we were singing happy birthday, and trying to take pictures of him blowing the candles out. We had to delete a lot of pictures because she was in them. My daughter was feeding her son a cupcake and she tells her that she cant do that. My daughter ask her when the play area was going to open, and she said it wasn't going to open because of covid, after telling her on the phone it would be. She also told my daughter that the tables were hers til 10pm, then she tells her after 30 minutes that she had to take everything off the tables and put it in her vehicle. The whole place was dirty. I do not recommend this place at all. My daughter spent $200.00 to have my grandsons party there just...
