I recently visited Theisen's in Coralville, attracted by a Christmas live plant sale advertised in the newspaper. Unfortunately, my experience was a mix of the usual expectations and a few disappointments.

Theisen's is known for its wide variety of products, and this visit was no exception. The store had a vast selection of items perfect for the holiday season. Cons:

Stock Availability: The primary reason for my visit was to purchase a Christmas live plant on sale. Despite the advertisement, it seemed they were out of stock, as I couldn't locate the item anywhere in the store. This was a bit of a letdown, especially for a sale item.

Customer Service: One of Theisen's strengths has always been its attentive and helpful staff. However, this visit was an exception. Surprisingly, there were no employees available to assist during my shopping. This lack of presence was unusual and impacted the overall shopping experience.

Checkout Delays: The checkout lines were notably long. Although other employees were present in the store, none were redirected to assist with the checkout process. This led to a longer-than-expected wait time to make a purchase.

Conclusion: While I value Theisen's for its variety and usually excellent customer service, this visit was underwhelming. The lack of stock on advertised items, coupled with reduced accessibility to staff assistance and long checkout lines, made for a less than satisfactory experience. Was looking to buy a heater, found it on there website on sale. On the site it stated that I could have it delivered to my house, pick up in store or just go to the store, it said avaible in store. So when I get there I’m told that the sale price is only good on online orders. Im then told I can order it to pick up in store, ready for pickup in 24-48 hours. Keep in mind this would be one of the 30 on the shelf at the store. I was told nothing they could do as it was store policy. This is very poor customer service and also makes absolutely no sense. On a past visit, I was going to buy a drill at there 11or13% off sale. Flyer stated any items that were regular price would get the discount, with a few exclusions, but was not on the item I wanted. So the regular price was 69.99. I asked 2 different employees what the regular price was, both stated 69.99. Then I’m told I can’t get the discount because it’s on sale. So I asked what’s the sale price, I’m told 69.99. I said ok so it’s not on sale, I should get the discount. Again I’m told no, it’s on sale. I asked how is it on sale when it’s the same price as your normal price? Told no discount it’s on sale. Finally after causing a stink in line saying this is false advertisement several times with the line backing up, they did give me the discount! I’ve spent a lot of money through the years this store, but not anymore! Very poor customer service and...

Theisens is a nice country oriented store. They are big on the clothing and shoes but that's bread and butter. Outdoor stuff is on par with the Fleet Farm and so on. Equine and livestock is also fine but no great shakes. I have no experience with their automotive. It looks good to me however. Pretty fine pet supplies and feed. If you can manage your way on your own Theisens is fine. They are generally understaffed so expect a wait in line. If you are a newby or an upstart Hoby farm good luck. Find the oldest, most decrepit employee you can find. These are the ones actually really working. They have the knowledge about real life farming advice but they might not have the technical skills to get product. Stuff... they got stuff but best to access Google to pre shop and avoid a generally apathetic staff devoid of any agricultural advice or knowledge. You can get what you want but don't expect miracles. Your knowledge is leverage over poor training and lack of product knowledge.
