If you haven't been to Mager Bargains, you need to stop in at least once just for the experience. Three separate locations all within one block - the place is massive. Most of what is sold are appliances, with the focus on washers & dryers. I am not exaggerating when I say there must be at least 1,000 washers/dryers there. Upstairs, downstairs, in the alleys and along the street. Quite impressive!
Prices are good and the selection is mind-blowing for refurbished appliances. He has other things as well - tires, antiques, bed frames, all sorts of stuff, but not in large quantities like the appliances.
He does repair work for reasonable costs as well, which is appreciated. He warranties his appliances for 90 days, but makes you buy a surge-protector for like $15. No biggie. Very knowledgeable as well, and will give you lots of tips and tricks to keep your purchase up and running well. Be aware if you bring something in for repair, he will tell you if you're not operating it correctly. Too much dog hair? Washing large & bulky items in your washer? He is absolutely going to point that out and tell you in no uncertain terms to desist. If you're thin-skinned and that is going to bother you, maybe send someone else in with the appliance to deal with the process.
I've bought a freezer, two dryers, and washer from Mager over the years. Good items and have had very few problems. I would highly recommend. The only reason I dock a star is because of staffing issues. Oftentimes you can't find anyone there - at any of the three locations. You wander around the narrow aisles of the massive appliance labyrinth hoping Michael Myers isn't going to suddenly appear in front of you. (It would actually be a great set location for a horror film). And when you do finally find someone, they often will need John himself to show up to actually finalize the transaction. If he's not there, you have to wait until he's available. Thus it's always good to call ahead of time and give a heads up that you are coming at a certain time and are interested in purchasing a (blank) so he's nearby and ready.
Excellent place though and I for sure will be going back next time I need a repair done or a used appliance. ...
Read moreI'm very dissatisfied with my experience with Mager Bargains. I bought a washer and dryer from them which came with a 90 day warranty. When I first went in I was impressed by the number of options they had and with all the owner said. He told me he checks and fixes each machine before selling it and gives a warranty on them. This all sounded great and he was sure to tell me of all of his qualifications. I picked out a machine and he explained it was small and not to over load it, which I never did in the 2 weeks I had it. However, after the two week the dryer smelt of burnt rubber, which I think was from the belt. I sent it back to him to be fixed still under warranty. He told me he wouldn't warranty it because we abused both machines by over loading the dryer and making the wash machine dirty. He said our house must be very dirty ( which it isn't, I'm a neat freak), neither of which was true. I tried to explain this to him when he started getting rude. I told him I didn't want to pay for him to fix it and said that was fine because it wasn't worth fixing (but when I bought it he told me how great it was). I will never do...
Read moreappliances don’t even last a month. they all have 60day warranty, but then owner says “not covered under warranty, customer has to pay parts and labor”. After several appliance purchases there, and one appliance not even lasting 14days, the other not lasting 30days. Every person I have talked to that has purchased appliances from him, has also ended up with bunk appliances, and the guy not sticking to his “warranty”. took my losses with this guy. Went to B&B in Grangeville instead, they have better appliances, very comparable pricing &...
