I can't recommend Extra Space Storage highly enough! From start to finish, my experience has been nothing short of outstanding. I understand that it is a place that works for a profit, however, the contract is month to month, therefore they increase the monthly rent at least every 3 months. You start out paying around $130 and find that barely affordable only to have to pay about $200 a month a year later! It's really unethical to take advantage of people who do not have a place to keep their belongings so they pay a separate entity a substantial amount of money each month, only to have that amount increase exponentially every few months. Because the auction date is not for 3 months, when you fall behind one month or are late in a payment they will also tack on unbelievably high penalty fees. I believe the penalty fee for being late was around 20%! The minute you are late your lock is cut off of your unit and you are locked out of your unit until you pay your fee and the late fees and any insurance that applies. They also will not take their lock off until you have bought a brand new lock to replace it. You are not afforded the option although you are paying for a unit that is supposed to be yours for that month.

To summarize, I will say to avoid putting your things in storage at all costs! From what I have heard, most of these places are all the same and this particular one was not actually much worse than others but this is the one I dealt with so this is where my review is posted.

The outdoor units are also very dirty for some reason even though there is a closed, locked garage style door. Everything seemed to be covered in a type of plant matter as if there was weather getting in somehow. I did not notice any water damage or anything like that but everything was filthy and I do not mean simple dust.

The Coventry location did have friendly and helpful management. They did give advice and helpful suggestions to help keep the monthly cost as low as possible. But I would definitely not recommend putting your stuff in storage if you can help it. This experience was awful and I felt like I was being extorted a bit since the price continually went...

The staff is friendly. Our initial sign up was a breeze 3 years ago. Went downhill after that.

The consistent changing of rates was incredibly frustrating. Constantly had water getting into our unit because the automatic doors were always malfunctioning.

What really upset me was the lack of flexibility when trying to move our items out of the storage unit. We are moving cross country, and we were moving our items into a POD. We asked if we could have a POD dropped off, just for a few hours, out of the way, on site so we could easily move our stuff from the unit directly into the POD. Despite being a customer for 3+ years and spending 12k over the years , I was told ‘no way.’ When trying to come up with a compromise or solution, they would not even listen to me. Instead, I had to rent a UHaul and essentially conduct 2 moves, and spend additional time and money.

Frustrating end to what initially was a good experience.
