This hotel is a GEM in the midst of the mountains & not far from the North Rim of the Black Canyon.
Cherri is the BEST host, as far as making sure you're comfortable & informed about location details.
With the Black Canyon fires, she called to be sure we knew & offered option to cancel.
The BIG ROOM with kitchen could sleep 6. Had 2 bedrooms & a living room.
Everything was VERY CLEAN. Toiletries were included, the simple basics of any hotel. Beds were very comfy. Linens were good quality.
The porch setting for sitting out & playing games or just chatting & watching the sunset was an AMAZING setting.
Laundromat downstairs is AWESOME. Big & lots of machines. The hardware store is well stocked & more CLEAN & ORGANIZED than any hardware store we've ever been into.
The town of Crawford is ADORABLE & had a few lil shops & restaurants. We ate dinner & had breakfast at the bug restaurant down the street. Judy (restaurant owner) was so sweet & accommodating.
Most definitely would recommend anyone to stay at The Hitching Post if you're passing through this area or coming to visit the Black Canyon. Unfortunately, we missed seeing the Canyon from the park, but... The DRIVE up Hwy 92 was one of the BEST VIEWS ever. We were pulling a LONG Trailer & didn't have any trouble at all on Hwy 92. (53' trailer)
We did ride Side by Sides in the area some. It's nice that you can ride out from town, but the CO TREX App doesn't have trails showing near Needle Rock. We discovered one, but apparently there are lots more.
The hotel does also have WIFI. Which allows ya...
Read moreWhile visiting the North Rim of Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park, we booked our accommodations at this cute little hotel in Crawford. I attempted to make reservations on-line, but ultimately called the hotel directly and spoke with Sherrie, the proprietor. Was very glad that I did! She was honest, courteous, and explained a little about the area and the hotel. Not many places to stay in Crawford or near the park, in general. When we travel to the parks, we don't expect to spend much time in our hotels other than sleeping. We expect and hope our rooms to be clean, with good beds, and to have some "local" character. We weren't disappointed! Our room was very clean, had a great bed, a mini-fridge and a microwave, great towels and bath supplies, and the hotel/general store had great local Colorado character. Sherrie was even so kind as to suggest a local eatery (Joe's) for dinner. All-n-all a very positive lodging...
Read moreTwice have stayed here for fourth season hunting. Will stay here again next year. Close to hunting but an ok rustic no furniture is the same but beds seem ok and clean place to stay. They dont clean or touch up the rooms every day but you can request towels whenever. I am going to stay there when in the area.Good Deal and an ok clean. Just some pointers. I bring an extension cord its an old place so sometimes you need a plug or two in a different area. Also go to Mad Dog for dinner not the boardwalk for dinner. When you go to Mad Dog dont order the expensive dinners since we have learned that they are not consistent and not worth it. But better then the boardwalk. There is no cell service with my service in room and other services. Room has minimal wifi so you can contact through Viber WiFi service. If going there and getting there after hours call before closing to pay and plan. No cell service there. ...
