The pool is very nice, one of the better ones in the area. It has a decent gym and lots of classes. Food service is poor, but the workers are nice.
The staff are a mixed bag, some of the staff are proud of their work and attentive (and can answer questions about hours or programs), but some treat people with the care and attention of a teenager barely scraping though a minimum wage walmart job.
The parking is a problem. Often I am parking 300+feet away from the entrance, in a side expansion lot, with kids who are going to and from swim lessons.
The lockers are so-so. The segregated lockers are spacious and have adequate facilities, but the family lockers desperately need to be revamped and expanded. The family lockers see MUCH more use than the segregated ones (probably 80% of people at the pool are using family lockers) so I wish they were larger (we are often having to wait for showers to open up). I wish they would have more unisex facilities for everything to be honest (for adults too, this isn't 1950 anymore and it would be nice for those who either have children in tow or who are non binary).
One big plus here is the childcare, for children on Saturdays and sundays from 8am to 12 and on mon to thurs from 4 to 8p. So you can drop kids off while...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI recently visited the JCC in Saint Louis, MO, and my experience was quite disappointing.
Dirty Facilities: The menās locker room was in terrible conditionāit looked like it hadnāt been cleaned in quite some time. The showers were not well-maintained, and there was no towel service available. Broken Amenities: The sauna and steam room were both out of order and smelled terribly. The hot tub was almost black with scum and the water was filthy. When I notified the staff about this, I was met with an indifferent response. They simply said, āOh, well, we are closing soon,ā despite it being only 4:45 PM and the facility closing at 6 PM (on the weekend). Unpleasant Staff: Unfortunately, the staff were not very friendly. I witnessed some staff members also being rude to other members, which added to the overall negative experience.
Overall, the poor condition of the facilities and the lack of customer service make this a place I wouldnāt recommend. Itās clear that management needs to address these issues to improve the experience for members. Save your time and money this place...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIāve been a member of The J for a few years. Itās a great gym in a lot of ways. Thereās a decent selection of equipment that seems to be well-maintained. I also like the squash courts and the indoor and outdoor pools. I also worked with a trainer for a while and he was excellent. Something I particularly like about The J is that it is truly accepting and welcoming of everyone.
The annoying part: There seems to just be one schedule posted online (at least that I can find) for each pool. It shows the general hours of the pool, but does not show changes to that schedule (e.g. pool unavailable due to a special event). Since I canāt find this info online, I need to call The J and ask if the indoor pools are open and available for use. It is maddeningly difficult to get a correct answer on this. For instance, Iāve called The J three separate times this weekend to check if the indoor pool was indeed open for use, and all three times I was told the wrong information. I wouldnāt leave this review after one off weekend, but this has been an issue over the...
