Nice Place to stop on the way to the Blackwater Falls main viewing area This is located in the Blackwater falls state park. There are many places to go inside the park and several things to do. The park has camping, falls viewpoints, hiking and this general store which also serves at the trailhead for the best views of the blackwater falls in my opinion. To get to this location, follow WV 29 (Blackwater Falls Road) and drive to the first intersection and turn to the right. Eventually the road will curve around and you should find this place on your right hand side. There is a fair amount of parking but it is angled in two sections between the store and the falls viewpoint. The store is not that large but has a good amount of merchandise. The staff were friendly and helpful. There are bathrooms outside to the left and a few chairs on the right as you enter the store from one side. Overall this is a good place to stop if you are in the park and want some souvenirs or just was a break from hiking. I recommend this place as a good stopping point for...
Read moreThis a must for Railroad lovers. I've been coming periodically to Cass for over 40 years. The town has grown up since my last visit and getting tickets especially in the fall can be a challenge. We took the 4 hour Bald knob trip. The views are wonderful. The lunch included in the trip was ham and cheese sandwich, water, Mac salad, applesauce and 2 soft cookies. The trip is 11 miles long up the mountain. You may get soot in your hair if you sit close enough to the engine. They used to have a concession stand halfway up but lack of willing workers to stay isolated forced closure. If you only went on 1 train in your entire life this one is one of the best. I've travelled to 47 states and been on many local train rides but few compare. Sit back and enjoy the nostalgia of a lumber train pushing and pulling you up...
Read moreI absolutely love the park and surrounding area, although this review is for the "Trading post" when I was visiting the area a few weeks ago. When I went in, I was the only customer there at the time. Five or six employees sat around the center register area chatting paying no mind to me. I guess I was expecting to be greeted and have a short chat, but this made me uncomfortable, and I wanted to leave lol but I’m glad I checked it out because I got some good stuff. I went up to pay and was ignored for a minute, then hardly acknowledged while ringing me up. There is a ton of touristy, souvenir items you can find anywhere but there’s also locally made items. A few favorites of mine are the locally made hot sauces and honeys, the silipint cups and...
