Went there last weekend with my wife and kids.
We all love books but this place is very unique. We did go on a hot summer day for some future reference. I plan on going back for sure, and I will update my rating upon each visit.
Good things cheep books -Lots of books
Bad things -super hot in there (No ac but they do have fans which is okay) probably better in cooler months
-really humid (a few dehumidifiers will help but they are expensiveso i understand if they dont invest in them)
-disorganized (they have an okay organization system but im sure we were there when it was busy but so many books didnt fit the themed sections)
-scalpers everywhere (they cant controle this but beware if you do come. We seen at least 3 people with carts on ebay looking for prices on every book in decent condition) again this isn't really an issue but kinda sucks trying to look at a section of books but someone was sitting there taking pictures of everybook
-Crowded (great problem for the business but sucks trying to keep track of my family when I can't go down any isle)
small isles. (You go through a good amount of unused space just to get to a large room with book shelfs packed in there. If there are more than if a sinlge person is looking then you kind of have to squeeze past them. But there where multiple people in each place)
-Customers (Personal opinion here but the rudest people i have ever met where there. I constantly felt like i was in the way and if you asked some people if you could get by or go around you get glared at a lot. Plus there were a lot of over sized people who looked in rough shape due to the heat.)
Manga and animie was empty. They do have comics but everything is picked through so if you come here just for manga please call to check before you make a long trip there. (During my trip multiplepeople where sad they didnt have any so i just wanted to mention it)
So you know this was an hour drive. We did buy over 20 books. 18 of those where damaged or drawn in. I don't mind it since the price is so low.
Again I will update this next time I go but I truly did not enjoy this place. I hope this criticism is taken as helpful and not hurtful.
There are hundreds coming out of state to visit and I just wanted to post some of my personal problems instead of just leave a 1 star review and say it was just bad. But my kids loved it minus getting pushed around by grown as people without manners.
I did go after I seen them on Facebook and my wife seen them on tiktok. The videos I seen tye place seemed empty of people but it was pretty crowded on the weekend. So totally on me for poor planning.
If you are local please check them out and support them and hopefully they improve. I know I will be making the trip down at least...
Read moreI love the idea of this place. But I have a few small problems with it. I've seen so many videos and ads and pictures that people post showing their book hauls. I didn't find really any books that I was interested in at all. I drove four hours to visit their store. It was extremely hot in there. They have thousands of books and it was a book lovers dream. But for me, I couldn't find anything I was interested in. The bins are a problem for me due to having severe back problems and can't spend a lot of time digging through bins. My sister found one book that intrigued her. My thought is it's similar to goodwill and you never know what you'll find. That's great but I wouldn't go out of my way driving 4 hours to visit again. If I'm passing through I may look real quick. The aisles are so narrow that two people can't be comfortably back to back looking at other shelves and two carts cannot go through at once without the awkward struggle of lifting the side and apologizing to the other person. I expected on our way there that it would go one of two ways, either it would have everything we were looking for because a lot of books we were looking for are extremely common OR we would leave disappointed. It was the latter for us. We were so bummed on our way home. But the idea is great and If you're in the area, check it out. But again, you never know what you'll find so maybe don't make a special trip for it especially if you live far away from it. Staff was friendly and the place was...
Read moreOne Dollar Book Swap is one of my husband and I’s go to places for bargain book shopping! Everything is $1.25. Movies, CD’s and Audiobooks included! We always really enjoy ourselves while there. You could easily spend over 2 hours inside. We always do! They have baskets and carts, which is very convenient. Their books are somewhat organized. I think that they would sell so much more if the books were alphabetized and organized a little more thoroughly. For instance, I went in looking for Dr. Seuss books and found the Dr. Seuss nook. To my surprise, I discovered that there were just as many, if not more Dr. Seuss books and a host of other children’s books in a back room past the registers that I had never been in before. I wish they had the category of “Children’s Books” all in one section. They probably have so much overflow that they just can’t display them all, but I still feel like I’m missing out on finding books because I simply haven’t looked in every single room. If you’re looking for a specific book, you’ll have to dig, but you may just end up finding it for $1.25 at Dollar Book Swap! I would recommend this...
