This is definitely the one thing you should not miss while in Detroit. Fascinating that they produce a truck every 54 seconds.
I’ve been to a few other car manufacturing plants before. I really appreciated the tour guides who are so very dedicated to sharing their story and the story of the site and factory! Very personable and friendly, and the best thing was that I can take as much time as I wanted to walk the catwalks and watch and look at how things are done instead of being rushed through it.
Now my criticism: I have to say, to the operators of the tour, that as a Canadian I didn’t really like the snide remarks towards our country! One tour host, while explaining the history of the name ROUGE river, couldn’t say exactly where Quebec was in relation to Detroit. Only that is was “very, very far away”. One didn’t even know that Ford produces cars in Ontario! And one said that Detroit is “the only city in the US north of Canada!”
