Absolutely. Awful.
I've lived in this area for about 2 months now and gone to this theater 6 times. Each and every time has had its problems, but I think having all of my cash stolen by employees is a bit over the line.
Here are my criticisms and nit-picks. The screens seem greasy. There's almost a layer over the screens that is somewhat distracting in full white scenes. Not that big of a deal, but still rough.
Uncomfortable seating. The seats, although tolerable, usually have tears or don't fold correctly. Additionally, don't be surprised to find junk left under the seat, or in some cases, gum.
Automation. This isn't a positive. It's weirdly dystopian. 9/10 times, tickets are bought on kiosks. Again, pretty standard, except for the fact that it disposes the tickets onto the ground which is mildly infuriating. If you know, you know. Plus, whenever I'd walk in with my ticket, I was only ever checked once which means that I could've just walked in there without paying. They almost never had an employee or even a machine out to scan.
Now for the big one: I was robbed. I went to see an evening showing a movie (9:35, one of the latest possible) and as I was watching, my wallet fell out of my pocket. Yes, that's my mistake, and I didn't realize until the next morning when I needed to drive to work. Naturally, I wanted to go back to the theater since I'd realized I had dropped it there so that I could recover it. So, in order to not waste time, I wanted to see what time they opened, except uh oh! The hours for this theater are basically non-existent. Maybe I'm blind, but they aren't posted in a single place on Earth. So, I just decided to go to the theater at 9 AM to wait around until employees start arriving. So, what needs to be noted at this point is I was the last customer in the theater and the first back at it the next day. Eventually, an employee arrives and I tell her about the incident. While I was waiting out in the cold, she went in to check for it, and luckily she came back for it. She asked me what color it was so that I could confirm it was mine (even though most wallets are brown or black and my I.D. is the first thing if you look inside). She handed it back and all was good. Except it wasn't. I looked inside to make sure everything was there. All of my cards had been moved to one side of my wallet and all my cash was taken out. I only had 20 dollars in there, but for me, that's a solid chunk of change. To add insult to injury, part of the wallet had been folded out which only happens when the wallet is opened and messed around with and since it was handed to me with the fold out, that means someone definitely at the very least went through it. I understand going through a wallet to figure out whose it is, but my I.D. was the first thing seen. There was no reason to move my cards or take my cash. So I told the so far helpful employee and she said, "Oh, we only had the janitors in last night after those hours. I highly doubt they took it. Let me get your name and number so we can contact you later today about the issue." Firstly, who else would it be? If I was the last one in the theater and the first back, literally no one else could have taken it. Secondly, they have cameras in the theater. They could've figured it out easily. Thirdly, it's now been more than two weeks and I haven't received a call from them even though they said that they'd contact me the day of. Naturally, I called them after two days of waiting. Completely ignoring the fact that it's incredibly annoying to find the number to talk to a real human, I couldn't even get a response when I actually dialed the number. No one picked up their phone to resolve an issue that one of their employees caused regarding theft. I called them the next day. No response. The day after that, I did actually get a response, but they simply said there's nothing that they could do. Sorry! I could not be more disappointed in this theater and I hope that this never happens to any other...
Read moreThis is the only theater to serve the DeLand area. In a pinch I will go here instead of driving further. I regret it every time. The worst sin of any theater is a substandard picture. The bulb is super dim. I dont know if they have the power turned way down, or if the bulbs are old and need replaced. The brightness is so bad you can hardly see what is happening. Only the brightest portion of any scene is easy to see. Forget dark scenes and details. Ive seen several a year there and have always wondered why it was so dark. I recently saw Superman in 3D here. It was half as bright again as a normal dim non-3D picture at same theater (3D basically halves the available brightness) The other people in audience were all commenting how bad it looked. IT was like a DARKER version of Snyder Superman, and that is already pretty dark. I then just saw the streaming version of the new Superman and it was a totally different experience, for one I could SEE the actors faces in the dark scenes! I told the teenagers in charge of the ticketing and screens if they have a Projectionist on staff to fix the problem but they didnt do anything about it. Do not see a movie here. The next weekend I drove to NSB and saw another movie and was blown away how much brighter the screen is. movies are supposed to be BRIGHT and viewable. A home TV screen is not supposed to be better than a MOVIE theater. That is the point of going to see a Big Screen. I did a little research and it sounds like when everyone switched over to LED projection and not Arc light bulbs projecting Film that the bulbs fade over time. Cheap theaters either turn down the brightness to squeeze more life out of the bulbs OR the LED bulbs are just not able to put out what they once did when new and cant work. It is a fixable thing, IF they choose to address it. The fact that the Digital projection systems in NSB CAN be bright and look amazing proves to me at least that Epic is either incapable or unwilling to fix their dim screens.
The second worst problem at this theater is the line to get your ticket. You have to wait for the person ahead of you to not just get their seat ticket but also fumble with the touchscreen to pick out their snacks and drinks and food. You are standing there watching them try to figure out the interface and then the payment and meanwhile you are aging by the moment and all you want to do is go sit down. MOVE THE CONCESSION LINE TO CONCESSSIONS!
third worst problem. NO RECLINING SEATS. Even the old theater in NSB has reclining seats in a lot of shows.
Altogether this theater is a horrible experience and leaves a lot to be desired. I would rather wait for a movie to come to streaming. DIM PICTURE, BAD SEATS, BAD PURCHASE experience and easily DOUBLE the price than the theater in NSB for same movie at the...
Read moreHorrible experience. Paid a ton to see the Fast and Furious movie. Arrived about 15 minutes before the show. Long concessions line. After taking everyone's order, the workers set out to prepare the food. If it was just kids working, I wouldn't complain, but there were three adults there not in the standard uniforms. I assume these were management. Very little popcorn was made in advance. There was a long line for the popcorn, and the workers could not keep the orders straight. I was one of the first people who paid, but the workers kept giving popcorn to others. I eventually had to say something before I was served. By that time, everyone else was already served except for one lady getting a refill. Was embarrassing to be put in that position. How difficult is it to put the tickets in order and make sure things are taken care of correctly? Ended up missing all the previews and walked in right when the movie was starting.
Then a ton of people talking in the theater. Actually got to the point we had to say something. Then one guy made a move like he was going to punch us, and another group of girls gave us dirty looks when we asked them to please be quiet. Another group of people behind us talked constantly. No management or ushers keeping an eye on things and making sure people follow the rules.
I expect this type of service from the old dollar theaters they used to have. But we spent close to $75 for a really horrible experience at the movies. Management is to blame. How hard is it to make popcorn in advance of a movie? Why not have some people making popcorn as soon as you see a long line? How difficult is it to keep the orders in a line and make sure the people at the front of the line are taken care of as soon as possible and before people who paid and came later? Does management not do anything about disruptive customers who talk through movies? I guess the other customers are SOL or have to take things into their own hands?
Horrible horrible experience there. Will not be paying to go back there. Way better to watch the movies at home instead of dealing with dumb management and disrespectful people. Stream the movie at home and save your money....
