This place is Nerd-vana!! I mean that in a good way! As a comic collector, visiting Mile High comics has been a bucket list item for me. So I had big expectations going into my visit. It’s pretty remarkable that this place even exists, and the shear amount of stuff in the store is really mind-boggling. You really have to see this place to believe it, and so I would recommend to every kind of collector to pay it a visit if you have a chance. If you’re looking for it, there’s a good chance that they have it or can probably get it.

While this place may be the largest or biggest store of its kind, it’s certainly not the “best” comic/collectible shop that I, or I dare say that you, will ever set foot in. There’s some things that keep me from rating it five stars despite all its uniqueness. The location is not in the best part of town, which I knew going in, and therefore didn’t have a big problem with. And, the feel and atmosphere inside of the shop is a little grungy, unpolished, and a bit rough around the edges..perhaps due in part to the warehouse locale itself. To be fair, that “feel” is not entirely unusual when it comes to shops of this sort.

However, I was definitely disappointed that the sales staff that I experienced was not friendly at all. No one really greeted or spoke to me unprompted, was even slightly friendly upon interaction, or smiled — even at checkout. As a determined collector, that isn’t going to deter me a bit, but it is worth noting. More dissapointing was that their prices on their back issue comics are simply outrageous. They didn’t even reflect reality in the current marketplace. I don’t know if they are not really motivated to sell these books and don’t want to turn over inventory for whatever reason, but there were books that were overpriced to the point of being ridiculous. I realize that a lot of shops will price a book and never reprice them again, which I’m generally cool with, as it often works out in the favor of the buyer. But I saw prices that could never have been accurate. Again, this is a phenomenon that you do see in other shops. That said, during my visit they did have a big section of books that were $3.95 each, with a further discount based upon the amount of books you bought. (I did not see any $1 bins but I could have missed them.) So I did end up finding 3 nice key books for under market value which I appreciated. However, it took quite a bit of digging to find those few books, so it was a challenge. Lastly, despite the huge inventory, I still had trouble finding lots of key books or issues that I would expect to see in stock from the world’s largest comic book dealer.

Again, I want to be very clear that this place is a genuine MARVEL, and I would gladly return. I would just caution collectors to temper they’re expectations somewhat and remember that bigger doesn’t always mean better. But by all means, it’s definitely...

Don’t believe the hype! Mile High Comics is running on reputation, not quality.

I’m a Colorado native and lifelong comic fan and I’ve shopped here off and on over the last 10 years. I went here again this year for Free Comic Book Day and I’m officially never going back. It was my third and final stop of the day and BY FAR the most disappointing.

The selection was terrible, somehow even for new releases (don’t be fooled by the famous warehouse size). I saw far more variety, more in-stock items, better Indie selection, etc at two much smaller stores earlier in the day.

Then there’s the pricing… Several things were TWICE the price of what I saw at the other two shops, and the only sales I saw were on the back-issue comics in boxes, and the selection on those was terrible (also suuuuper disorganized and not fun to sort through).

They also seemed to have a TON of stuff from Ali Express-type stores. You can find other Google reviews about this too - so many terrible-looking knock-off items were on full display and it was just super painful to look at (especially with how much they're charging for this stuff).

I still figured I should buy something since I stopped in, so I bought a few things I’ve been wanting even though I knew they’d prolly be full price. When I got home, I realized they charged me more than the standard price you’d pay online and WAY more than what I’d have paid at the other two shops I’d been to. I called about returning them and was promptly told that isn’t allowed, too.

I won’t name other stores (Google rules), but if you check out top-rated shops around Parker or Lakewood, your shopping experience will be better and friendlier across the board - better selection, better service, better prices, better people, better organization, better vibes, better everything.

The one and only good thing I can say about this store these days is that they support & donate to the LGBTQIA+ community and they have some cool props.

TL/DR - Mile High Comics is NOT INTERESTED in being a place for comic fans - it's just a warehouse museum and a tourist stop selling overpriced comics and knock-off merch.

Support other local small comic shops and pass on this one unless you just want to take selfies with the...

This is a fun and cool place to visit, regardless of if you're into comics or not; with that being said, I wouldn't recommend spending any money here: I've visited Mile High Comics several times these past couple of years ... and I've yet to have a single positive experience with their staff. Don't bother asking anyone a question, or for any assistance, because they'll just glare at you like you're bothering them and give you curt, lazy responses. For example ... I once asked an employee if they happened to have a trade paperback copy of "X-Men: God Loves, Man Kills" in stock. The employee glared at me like he didn't know what I was talking about (which I thought was a little ... odd for someone who worked in a comic book store) and just grumbled: "If we had it, it'd be back there..." Another time, I actually found a couple of things I wanted and went to check out ... only to find I'd brought the wrong credit card. I was so embarrassed and politely informed the employee who'd ringed me up that the purchase was going to have to be cancelled. Obviously, I wasn't expecting her to give them to me for free or let me go put them back myself ... but I also didn't expect her to roll her eyes at me and hiss "Whatever..." before walking away. I get it; working in customer service can be an absolute nightmare and everyone has their bad days ... but when I have that experience EVERY time I visit, I start to feel like they don't want my business and I need to go somewhere else... Everyone and their grandmother seems to have mentioned this, but everything in this store is ludicrously overpriced. I get that Mile High is a small business and likely can't afford to sell everything at Amazon rates ... but they are out of their minds if they think I'm gonna pay $40+ for something I can find for less than $20 from another comic seller on eBay... I wish I had more positive things to say. I remember walking in there for the first time and feeling my nerdy, superhero-loving heart burst with joy ... but I've just had it with this place and I don't think I'll be...

I have complicated feelings about Mile High Comics. I’ve heard many negative stories over the years about this place, and my own experiences haven’t always been positive. On the other hand, it's also an undeniable thrill to venture into the "world's largest comic-book store." From the Silver Age comics on display (too expensive to buy, but still fun to look at) to the life-size X-wing fighter from Star Wars to the sheer number of long-boxes, the store is dazzlingly impressive. It’s almost unfair to try and compare this store to other comic shops. It is HUGE. It has EVERYTHING. Just take the $1.00 comics by themselves. You know, the long boxes filled with unsorted issues? There are SO many of those that they would ENTIRELY fill the premises of many of the other comic shops around town. Just the dollar comics by themselves! Still, let’s stop using all-caps and try for some balance. There’s good and there's bad to sort through at this store, once you set aside the GARGANTUAN premises. Oops, sorry – there’s that all-caps usage, again! Many people complain online about the high prices, the antique web-site, the listless, uncaring staff... and there are times when the world's largest comic-book store also seems to be the world's most confusing comic-book store. Lately, however, they've rearranged the sections in a more sensible fashion. The staff seems more upbeat and friendly, too. High prices are still prevalent, but occasional sales may help you with that. Maybe! This ambivalence can perhaps be tossed aside for Mile High Comics' support of the trans and queer community. Good job, there! Similarly, the food drives for the homeless, the all-ages drag shows, the support for local artists - all positive. I've never been to the wrestling matches or the poker tournaments, but those also seem like fun, community-building events. There’s so much space to use at the Jason Street Mega Store... it's nice to see it being used for the forces of good.

Having grown up reading comics I became enamored at a young age by the ads of Mile High Comics...fast forward a few decades and I finally make it a priority to go. It IS an amazing place however I wouldn't recommend purchasing a single thing there. There was a 50% off sale when I was there and I still found things way over priced. I went there with the hopes of picking up a single EC horror comic and while they had only one (seriously, millions of comics and only 1 EC) was way over priced for the condition and that was with the half off. It was a very sad experience. All of their books are insanely overpriced. Drove back to my hotel room and bought two from eBay for twenty more than the single one they had and they're in better condition. It was like discovering your childhood hero is now a bloated alcoholic. Won't return. Can't recommend. Wish Chuck and crew the best of luck. I did however score a pretty sweet Overlook Hotel keychain for five bucks so it wasn't a wasted trip entirely. That and the drinks by the door are the only reason to stop in.
