This is such a great yoga studio! I honestly never expected to fall in love with the yoga practice as much as I did, but it has quickly became an essential part of my life. The owner of BE NICE yoga, Monica, actually hosts yoga sessions at my college, so I was first exposed to it there, and I love her teaching style. She made it easy for a total beginner to not feel bad for not getting a pose right on the first try, and to not worry about what anyone else is doing and really make the practice your own. When I finally got the chance to take a class at her studio I was amazed at how much of a difference it made to practice there versus at home or in a classroom. I was able to take a vinyasa class with Monica, as well as some more relaxing, slow paced classes that Caitlin teaches and all of them were great! I left feeling calm, relaxed, well stretched out and ready to tackle the rest of my day. I also love the fact that compared to some of the studios I have looked into in the past, this one is much more affordable, because lets face it, for a college student that matters. So if you are in the metro-detroit area, I HIGHLY recommend stopping in to check...
Read moreI am extremely impressed with Be Nice yoga. I don't really enjoy practicing at cookie cutter yoga studios that emphasize burning calories, play distracting easy listening music, and sell overpriced designer yoga pants. Be Nice embodies the essentials of the practice, from it's open, simple, lovely windowed studio to the kindness and patience from every instructor. As a second-time beginner, I don't feel rushed or behind in practice, and I feel there is a balanced emphasis on meditation and breathing as well as the body and movement. I have come back to yoga for more reasons than just exercise, and for this, I feel at home in this studio. It is also convenient because I am a resident of New Center, and the Midtown Detroit location is close by and safe.
I am confident that owner and instructor Monica Breen knows what she is doing and is operating the studio for the right reasons. I highly...
Read moreThursday, February 26 2015 I attended my first class (Abhyasa) @ Be Nice and it will be the LAST. Worst yoga experience ever and I've practiced Vinyasa, Ashtanga, and Bikram all over the US (Denver, Washington D.C., Charlotte, Chicago, Wilmington). Front desk attendant rudely approached me in the parking lot saying "keep your voice down there's a yoga class going on upstairs" after I cheerfully shared I'm new/visiting.
Upon entering the studio the front desk attendant exemplified nothing close to "Being Nice" as she was not welcoming, zero studio etiquette, never offered class packages, never thanked me for coming....but was scolded after class for not writing my name on a sheet.
Silly me, I thought the two page information sheet I filled out at beginning of class was enough. Again, no direction from functionary at the front desk. ...
