No awful complaints about the staff or education here. My issue lies in the fact that I was pushed to take ACCE program with the idea that “There’s no reason not to.” However, a few months into my education I decided that I would rather pursue a full time career in something I didn’t need a college education for. I dropped out and get sent a back charge for $2,323.30. The most baffling part is that I served 40 hours of community service, which to my understanding, is a sort of monetization for ACCE program to be profitable. They made no effort to consider that I could have made significant amounts of money during those hours, and didn’t give me a credit towards the total. I feel like I’ve been taken advantage of, especially since I was a kid with no idea of how this whole thing was going to work. I see ACCE as predatory and profiting off of students who aren’t sure if they should pursue college or not. Hopefully this will serve as a warning to not pursue ACCE program if you’re “not sure.” Be...
Read moreRegistered for classes in July of 2018. One class in particular was extremely important(electricity course). Luckily there was a single option available to accommodate my work schedule. The day of class at 7:23 am I receive an email notification from our professor that our class was cancelled and we needed to register for another course or make other arrangements. I called the college, while most employees were apologetic they were unhelpful at best. The class I chose to replace my cancelled course had a silly co-requisite course for first year students that I had already taken and was informed I would have to retake the class no exceptions if I wanted to enroll in the course. This college is unorganized at best and caters to kids with no jobs living on their parents income and or in their parents basement. I caution you on applying to this school if your a working adult, your second class in the eyes of the...
Read moreNew River Community College needs work... to say the least. The advisors are not helpful and do not work for you, they do the bare minimum and are not interested in your success. The nursing program is not terrible, however it needs extensive work. The bookstore faculty are also the least bit helpful and do not provide anything except the minimum assistance. The financial office is not interested in you or your needs and will delay responses to urgent matters for days. The professors are inconsistent and the learning opportunity is compromised in that they continually use tests and exams from years before without any modification. Overall I would not recommend this college to anyone looking at community colleges in virginia as there are many other institutions that prove more consistent, professional, and geared toward student success...
