Mrs. Harrington and her activities staff responded with great professionalism to a patient's family request to have my Federally Registered Service Dog visit their family member. The patient wanted so much to have opportunity for a canine visitor. Earlier while the patient was inpatient at Vidant Chowan Hospital, the hospital staff was many times less than helpful accommodateling the family's request. Chowan River Nursing and Rehab was determined to work out a beautiful conclusion to all our efforts. They showed HEART in accommodating their patient. For the first time experiencing extended stay inpatient nursing rehabilitation care for a loved one, we did not have very clear expectations. Chowan River set an excellent standard for care, patience, professionalism, competence, kindness, and communication. The entire admin and nursing staff did a remarkable job providing the time, customized care and attention specific to our unique needs. As an out of town caregiver for my loved one, At no point did I ever feel isolated or removed from the day to day care my loved one was receiving. The staff is knowledgeable and strives to do everything possible to personalize the care. In some cases the shift nurses went above and beyond to provide accommodations and recommendations for my patients wellness. In addition, the rehab team was also competent, effective, encouraging, and patient with the program and plan. Facing the need to return to an SNF again recently, there was no hesitation to use...

I came to Chowan River Nursing and Rehabilitation after surgery on 2 broken bones on my right leg and surgery on my right knee. When I got here, the entire staff made me feel right at home, All Administration and Staff, Nurses, CNA’s, Physical and Occupational Therapy, Activities Director, Cleaning Staff, Laundry Staff, Cafeterias Staff and Maintenance, were all so friendly and caring. I came mainly for Rehab, after I left the hospital. The Physical and Occupational Therapist are absolutely wonderful. It was a pleasure having them work with me on my therapy each day. You are all a very hard working group! I met so many new friends while I was here, who took care of all my needs, especially since I couldn’t get around very good at first.
