Castillo's Collectibles — Local services in Elgin

All of the staff are friendly and helpful, card selection is great and the players are all super nice. However, the way some of the events are handled themselves prevents many from attending and fully enjoying the event.

I went to the store to play some Commander and was excited to see that they had 3 players already. I sat for 45 minutes waiting to join a game while not a single attack was declared despite 15 creatures being on the board, some of which were unblockable and had vigilance, then decided to just go home.

The next time I went was during the most recent pre-release and had fun the whole way through. However, in the final round my opponent had to concede because we were pushed out due the store's stringent closing policy. I have played in FNMs all across Oklahoma, Louisiana, Colorado, Texas, Florida, and New Mexico. And I have NEVER. EVER been pushed out the door at 10 P.M. The numbers for these events would absolutely double at a MINIMUM if they treated them with the respect that they, and the players deserve.

Absolutely love that my small town has a card shop finally! Been here several times, staff are freaking amazing and I never have any issues in-store buying or playing. Owner has been respectful and courteous and store is usually stocked with everything. Devyn has been the key staff member for me, always ready to start a convo and give info on the games and TCG packs/sets. Even the snacks and drinks for sale are a nice touch. cannot take constructive criticism about how to properly handle card events. if you don’t have the available amount of time to hold a card event and try to get people out of there EXACTLY at closing, even if the tournament is still going… then no one is actually going to be able to enjoy the tournament you provide. stick to selling cards instead of actual events if you don’t have the proper amount of time.
