They charge way too much and will try to steal your stuff. I brought a ring in over a year ago to get made into another, Dorothy refused to give me a receipt or any kind of proof showing she received the ring, and said she'd have it on file if we ever needed anything, all the while she quickly shoved it under the counter before I could ask for it back. Took over a week and countless phone calls before she finally quoted an insanely high price, so I asked about selling it and she never got back to me and when I would call she would say she need a couple days to look into it. Finally I asked for it back and she said it was an old case so she'd have to get it out of her vault. Fast forward several months and tons of calls and visits to the store later, her excuses were always that I had to wait till after the holidays because they're so busy, she didn't know I wanted my ring back, they're super busy and she hasn't had achance to look for it, etc. She's shady and always has an array of excuses on hand. Update I finally got my ring back after filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. I will not go...
Read more(ALWAYS MAKE SURE ITS YOUR JEWLERY) With being new into the Bastrop and Elgin area, i came across this place I was recommended to and thought it was nice.. But unfortunately I had the most frustrating and emotional experience with me only wanting to repair my small broken gold Figaro chain. I was told by Dorthy I’d have the necklace in 3-4 days, after those days passed I called and I got no answer for 2 days in a row. Finally got a call,Instead it took a week and a half to get it back.. Immediately i noticed that the weight of the chain wasn’t there and wondered why the detail of the diamond cuts weren’t there. After getting it checked out at a pawn shop minutes after I received it, I couldnt believe I was told that I’d been given a gold plated necklace?! I went back to confront, Dorthy and who I believe is her daughter Michelle both denied and stated “thats what was brought in.” I had proof (pics) and apparently was a misunderstanding sooo she apologized, gave me my refund of $45 and some how my real chain appeared. It can be hard to know who you can trust to give your $$ & business too. BE AWARE of...
Read moreMy mother recommended Dorothy's Jewelry Shop to me when I mentioned I needed watch repair and a battery replacement, so I tried it out. The owner is a super nice lady. You will not find better prices on watch repair and / or battery replacement. I went to 8 different jewelry stores around Austin to have my 14 year old Bulova timepiece repaired that was showing signs of moisture inside the case and the lowest quote I received was $250. When I took it to Dorothy's the repair was done inside a week for $75!!! She replaced most if not all the gearing and other mech's inside the watch plus replaced the dying battery and cleaned the entire piece. Freaking AWESOME!!! The only place I will go to ever again, I extremely, highly, and very much recommend this small shop in downtown Elgin. Its good to know that there are local business owners who still care and provide an excellent service that the corporate giants could not...
