We were completely turned off when we walked in and nobody said hello and heavy rock music was blasting loud from the bar area. It appeared that some guys were doing renovations on the place - the music was not exactly what you'd expect to hear at an antique mall. Anyway, we soldiered on and ended up spending about 50 minutes in the place, which is vast. And talking about vast, the number of overpriced items in this mall was astounding! Why do these small town antique malls sell stuff for far higher prices than big city malls, when they have 1/50th the foot traffic?? If I was an antique dealer with a booth in an antique mall (which I was once upon a time), I would not choose this place. The people working here could care less if anything sells - not a single soul was walking the aisles, like they do at malls in Chicago.
On a positive note, the ladies room was really cool, with interesting items and decor. And if you're just into browsing, this is a fun place to look, albeit pretty stifling hot on a humid August day. Remarkably, I did find one interesting wood carving for just $10 on sale. When I brought it up to the counter to buy it, the woman was just as rude as she had been when we walked in - she was too busy flirting with one of the guys working. What a...
Read moreSaw this place while one a road trip to Iowa with my parents and the moment we saw it we knew we had to stop in on our way back. So that we did! The building used to be a school, so it's HUGE! Every time you turned a corner, there was a new room to look through, a new booth to browse, and stairs that lead you to more rooms and booths! I swear it's impossible to not leave with something. They have everything organized perfectly and set up beautifully. Theres something for everyone. My mom and I grabbed our baskets and found so many goodies, even managed to find some gifts for the holidays! This place is an antique lovers DREAM!! The two people we met there, the woman at the counter and I believe the owner were so nice and welcoming. Made the experience even better! And they had a killer Christmas playlist going too! They even have a little cafe area that I regret not getting a drink for the road, but will 100% do that next time, because there WILL be a next time! If you're in the area and like vintage things or antiquing, you will wish you found this...
Read moreVery very cool. But you must keep in mind that it is 2.5 hours west of Chicago. However, it’s right before Galena which offers a lot of other stuff and that alone makes it worth the drive. Okay, the mall itself is housed in an old school house, but it’s not a tiny school house… more like an old high school. Lots and lots of rooms and vendors. It’s like a maze and at every turn you will find something Interesting. They do not exclusively have antiques, there are a few spaces with things like soy candles, natural soaps, and crafts. (in my opinion that’s great.) and there aren’t too many. Prices are very fair in all the booths. The entire mall is clean (including the bathrooms.) Parking is great. Staff is very, very friendly and helpful. We enjoyed the three hours we spent in the mall and left with a couple of items. They also have fresh coffee. I’d say go when they open, then go onto Galena and...
