Bombshell Salon — Local services in Ellicott City

BEWARE OF SALON!!!! I am writing this review for my wife. Currently I am stationed in Afghanistan and I got a message from my wife today saying she had the worst experience ever at this salon. She went there wanting to dye her hair. Well Chrissy the person doing her hair said she couldn't do her hair blonde because her hair is so black. Personally I believe Chrissy is very inexperiences because my wife has have had blonde highlights before. So Chrissy offers to do a test on the color. After it is done she without showing my wife the color she says it's not going to work and if she would like a haircut instead. My wife said no I am not going to do anything because she really wanted the blonde highlights. On the way out the door she is informed she owes 20 dollars. My wife was confused because they didn't do any service for her. They responded by saying since you sat in the seat and you took our time you have to pay. Also they said it was 20 bucks for the hair color test. But they went back and forth on what the charge was for. This company is very unprofessional and the do not derserve anyones business. She explain to them that she really didn't feel obligated to pay because they didn't provide a service. They still were not listening. My wife and I both believe this company is poorly ran. Jen the owner is very immature and disrespectful. Honestly it's not a big deal because it was only 20 dollars but when we have brave men and women fighting for a freedom overseas and on our own soil I feel it is important to single these kind of scumbags out who are stealing from people and feel there are no conciquences for there actions. Again do not go hear. They charge for every little thing and honestly I would rather go to a supercuts at a mall. This salon is FAAAARRRRRRR from having professional staff and I hope people will heed my warning...

I’ve been coming to Bombshell for several years and have observed some disappointing changes over that time. I always book with a master stylist, which is more expensive, but the last several times I’ve booked, aspects of my appointment like washing and drying my hair have been scutted to less experienced stylists so my full service is no longer done by the stylist I book with.

The master stylists are also often distracted answering questions from less experienced stylists and delegating salon tasks to others. I think the salon should consider hiring a floor supervisor so stylists aren’t trying to also do services while managing other employees.

These changes have impacted how I feel when coming to the salon. I do not feel prioritized the way I did when I first came when my stylist would do my entire service and wasn’t so distracted. I also feel frustrated I am paying for a master stylist when they aren’t doing the full appointment. No matter how good you are, you should never give a client the impression you’re too good or too busy to wash their hair or dry it. And no well-run business should ever have their stylists so over burdened with supervisory tasks that they cannot fully tend to their clients. I personally have seen Sydney every time I've been there and I have never left being anything short of happy. The way she can understand the color you want and make it possible is amazing. However, she is honest. If you're dark haired and you want to go blonde she will tell you how long that will take and the STEPS that are needed to achieve that. I naturally have medium-light bronde hair but I wanted to be blonde - like white/ashy blonde. I had an old stylist that made me "blonde" within one session - it was yellow. Like a yellow crayon, yellow. I was TERRIFIED of that happening again and I made my fears known to Sydney. She assured me that would not happen but I would not leave that day with what I wanted. We planned out the steps I needed to take and just a few months later (probably could have been sooner but I was okay with coming back every 2-3 months versus 6-8 weeks) I am exactly where I want to be and I never had to go through a terrible color phase! While Sydney may not be the one who always blow dries or finishes my styling, any girl she has that does finish me up does AMAZING. So that part is perfectly fine with me.
