A former employee of the escalon golf course. The owners are and willing to do the best they can right now with what we have. Old sprinklers more than half has been replaced . Old valves half has been replaced. Equipment. Well things break down and with no backup. yes the grass grows fast . Oh snap I just love this one. One storm comes through and trees are down the next morning golfers are like you should have had this all cleaned up before you opened as there hat gets blown from there heads because the wind is still blowing. People complain about the carts. I catch young people and I won't say who they are but they know better than to have four people and four bags of clubs in one cart with to of them standing in the back of it bouncing up and down and then come tell me that something is wrong with said carts. I've seen people hit off the greens knowing that you have to take a drop. But know .They hit said ball and take a big divit with it don't even try to repair it or replace it. But come and tell me what's up with the greens. I've never seen them this bad . I'm like. we never had so many un edict and uncaring golfers before. They will spit their sunflower seeds out on the greens and then come in and complain that the rough is a little tall and that they can't find there balls on the outside. Clue the outside is out bounds go to where you seen it first enter and take a drop like your supposed to. But no . I have to listen to other golfers complain about sunflower seeds and that your a slow player and that you messed up the best game they had in awhile. The list goes on. The employees work hard the owners are trying to renew everything that's been in the ground for what now. 40 years or better. So keep on doing what you have been doing. you awesome Ray of sunshine. you really make me want to walk out the door and go to work with a smile, a chuckle and what the duck...
Read moreI've passed by this course multiple times commuting from Modesto and it has always looked like a nice course...from afar. I called to set up a tee time and it seemed fine and all set up. I arrive for my tee time and the info wasn't put in the system(which is understandable as the ball collector for the range had just broken down), then as I'm paying for the round, I'm just then notified that the greens and course are going through a resending and the greens were pushed back and supposedly the tee boxes(it would have been nice if it were disclosed over the phone and not 'hey surprise, you're not going to get in a decent round'), I figured screw it since I drove there already. The golf carts, not safe at all, dont use #9, the key is broken off in it, the brakes are completely shot, i had to push my foot all the way down to get them to engage and the steering is all over the place. First hole is just rough, the grass hadn't been cut in days, the "temporary green" wasnt cut so you just put on fairway, get to the second hole, the par 3 has turned into a par 2(there was only enough distance to chip from the temp tee box to the temp "green"). You look at each hole beyond it and the whole course is the same way. I go back instantly from the 2nd hole and ask for a refund and just to get a bucket of balls and when I did, the person at the counter just kept giving excuses why things aren't right or why it wasn't disclosed over the phone. Its insulting that people are even being charged to play here while the course is in disrepair and going through repairs. You should have the course closed for the grass to properly grow and heal if it is being reseeded. I know its a business and it has to make money, but still, unacceptable. At least there's the driving range?...Very...
Read moreHave probably played at Escalon 6-8 times, but this was first time playing anywhere in two years. Greens were never good previously, and sand traps were always just an obstacle, not even sure if there is sand in them. The temporary greens weren't bad, they were cut short and maybe even rolled, but they shortened the course and did not really have to try and read them before putting. Thought the fairways were OK, just hard, but wish some of the first, or was it second cut of rough was shorter, between the grandson and I, we lost 3 balls, that couldn't have been 10 feet off the fairway. The price we paid on a Wednesday, was fair, but probably not worth more than that with these conditions. The range balls were a pricey, but the video monitors were cool. The kid in the proshop, who was also shagging balls on the range, was friendly. With that said, Escalon is small town Central Valley golf. I learned to play golf with a $5 yard sale set of clubs, at a city park and elementary school across from our house. The first two courses I played as a kid, in the Fresno area, are long gone. We used to play a lot of golf hitting off hardpan, and dodging sprinklers watering the fairways, or the guy mowing in the middle of the day. There are other courses in the area, though Carver 3 Par, and Muni are gone, and hopefully things will get better at Escalon, but like they say about fishing, a bad day of golf is still better than a good...
