Will never go back to this shop!! Every year me my boyfriend and his aunt and uncle go on a hunting trip to Michigan. I'm not much of a hunter so I like to go up to some of the towns close to our cabin. Went to this candy shop. As soon as I walked in a lady asked me if I was looking for anything in particular. I said no I'm just looking. Her tone of voice and the way she looked at me was a little off. I just brushed it off. I picked up a few things and another lady came up to me and asked if she could put my things at the counter i said I guess but im all most done. She said oh well no hurry.Even though there was a lot of other people carrying stuff and I didn't notice them ask if they wanted them to put their stuff at the counter made me feel like I was going to steal something! When I checked out i handed her my bank card and was askd for ID. I just spent $120 at a store up the road North Coast apperal! I went to the same candy store a few days before in Marquette and was not treated like this. I ended up spending almost $50 in there store because I was on crunch time and didn't want to make a scene but never again! Go to the one on the next street . It's bigger. If I hadn't placed a carry out order at restaurant that I needed to pick up...
Read moreStopped here at the location on Ludington Street on the way home from a weekend in Manistique as we googled candy store and read the great information about how it's been in the family since 1906, yadda yadda. I don't get it. Nothing about this place screams out that it's a candy store when you go inside, and we had to actually look around before we found the one small half of an aisle that actually had the glass candy shelves. There was no smell of freshly cooked candy as you would expect going into a confectionery. This place was packed with just about everything else but candy. You should rename your store Sayklly's Gifts & Confectionery. We did purchase several candy items, and they were good. However, we won't stop back here, as part of going to a candy store is taking in the smell of freshly cooked items that comes with the ambience of a confectionary and not a place packed full of stuff with candy...
Read moreWhere do I begin. I'm originally from the U.P. and my dad was in the Air Force and he was born in Gwinn and my mom grew up in Bark River. We moved from the area in the early 90s all over the western U.S. My great grandmother who passed in 2001 always got us a pound of Assorted Chocolates at Chirstmas every year and sent it to us where ever we lived at the time. She would always apologize and say sorry that "its just a box of chocolates". Well its more then that to our family, its a piece of home. We continue the tradition and we each get a pound of taffy with it now. Whenever we are in town, we stop off at the downtown location and stock up on taffy to bring back with us. Thank you Saykllys for bringing a piece of home to us...
