BEWARE! Now I know why they advertise "lower prices" they end up screwing you as much as possible!!! I travel often and have used many car rentals & this one by far is the only one I can truly say my experience sucked from start to finish! This experience is long. Lots of RED FLAGS! When we arrived at DFW, there was 3 extra long lines. No other car rental had lines. We the customers were confused as what was going on, which line to get into. Very unorganized! After 20 mins (which we stood in line for over 1 hour and some change) someone finally came out and said that 3rd lane was for another company! So the people in that line got to skip everyone whom was already in line forever, even the ones that just got into that 3rd lane! A couple of people got out of line and went to other car rentals willing to pay extra at this point. About 20 mins later, someone comes out and states "they over sold, so anyone that rented a car starting at midnight & beyond weren't getting a vehicle"! It was already way after 6pm at this point! About 10 mins later, someone else came out and stated "it would be over an hour to get your car after being processed". We finally reached the front and a lot of unhappy people were talking to "managers" or waiting for them. As we seen people go up when it was their turn, we approached next and the representative said "did I call you up here" we my fiance & I shocked said "excuse me and let him know no sir, that is not how you talk to people/customers"! Not acceptable! His attitude did change after I pulled my phone out to record! Hours later we finally received our car & took pics, videos & made sure we inspected this car fully. Only to find we had another long line to exit! Mind you, our reservation was at 5:30pm and we finally left after 8pm! So now after returning the vehicle, thinking everything is over I received an email notice of my daily mail & I see an invoice coming from dollar. This is August 3, 2023. Our rental was in mid July. It was a notice of a ticket received from dollar (the correspondence had no date on it). Dollar stated that "a ticket was received and they paid it and attached a $30 administrative fee". I remember paying for all our parking so I contacted the parking company that was issuing the ticket. After talking to the company, we paid only a portion so they were willing to adjust the ticket amount. Which was totally our mistake, but I paid it in full right than & there! They had stated "the ticket in fact wasn't paid for yet"! So after receiving my confirmation of payment, I emailed proof of payment to dollar. They emailed me back days later stating "I still needed to pay their administrative fee since it was after 30 days of notice"! First they paid nothing out of pocket! Secondly, there was no warrant or tickets on this vehicle or will be due to me! Thirdly, it was 30 days after notice due to the fact they just sent notice that was received August 3, 2023, I showed proof from our USPS of when it was received. Which was also sent when I only had days left to pay it or it would've ended up worse or even more money!!! I woke up to an alert that dollar charged that $30 fee!!! So this was our experience with this company and the employees. I myself do read a lot of reviews to base if I want to give my business to a specific company. However, i do believe in fairness, so seeing the 2. something stars they had, i took a chance anyway! My lesson learned here is that you get what you pay for and I literally paid for it! Less is NOT always better! They don't event deserve a 2 star! Hopefully this helps someone from getting screwed from this company moving forward. It has at least helped a couple of associates I know, they overed look this place. Will never give my business to...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe were in town for a family members' funeral and needed to drive the last 3 hours to the destination city. We selected this company because my mother-in-law liked them. The experience was so awful, that my husband who is really laid back even said we will NEVER rent from this company again. Sorry for the wall of text but let me go through our experience....
-I signed up for their rewards so that we could get the added spouse driver for free. I did this a few days before we arrived. The woman looks at my reservation and says she doesn't see I'm enrolled in rewards and that it takes 78 hours to get in the system. Seventy-eight... really. She wanted $15 a day for this. Enterprise offers this free rewards or not but I did research it for Dollar and took the necessary steps to be eligible. -She offered the insurance. I advised her we already had purchased the insurance with the rental. She said that did not satisfy Texas minimum insurance requirements. I advised her that I had personal car insurance if that was in fact the case. -She offered the prepaid gas. As I was looking up gas prices in the area she added the prepaid gas and shoved the rental agreement and pen towards me in an attempt to sign agreeing to the $40+ in prepaid gas. Their gas was $2.72 or something and GasBuddy said area prices were $2.14. She was irritated when I made her remove the gas and reprint. -Speaking of gas, after she reprinted the non-prepaid gas rental agreement she said we had to put gas in the rental on the same day we returned it within 10 miles of the airport and keep our receipt as proof. Why we needed to get gas within 10 miles; she said it was because you could drive 70-80 miles in the car before it would go below Full. I can guarantee you we did not drive 80 miles before the tank went below full on the way out. -When we arrived back we gave the receipt to the woman checking us in - she told us she didn't even need to see it; then when we explained why we were giving it to her she said that was not a policy. Go figure.
I get their job in retail is to up sell but outright lies during each part of the process?!? Ok - we will be going back to Enterprise or Hertz next time.
I will give them credit though for having an adequately staffed service desk and a wide variety of cars. In addition, the process was quick; the interaction with the woman giving us the car (checking out?) took less than 20 minutes from start to finish. And the woman checking us in - took less than 5 minutes.
Any management reading this that wants to see our reservation (maybe to retrain your staff) we picked up the car on 11/21 and returned it 11/24 Rental...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreFriendly agent, best rate in the area, you can select which car you want!
We booked a 3 day rental for a Compact/Mid-size car during Labor Day weekend for $183 (non-prepaid rate). The check-in process was smooth and quick. The agent was friendly. He didnāt even ask me to show my proof of insurance.
He did try to upsell me for additional insurance and also for their PlatePass. Itās $12.99 per day, you pay every day during the rental period (not like some rental companies who only charge you for the days you use), not sure if there is a maximum charge per rental period. From what it was described to me, it sounded like the $12.99 is an all-tolls-included rate (like an unlimited pass), but I declined it and didnāt bother to ask for further clarification.
If you declined the PlatePass but then accidentally used a toll, you will be charged $15 per use plus the actual toll rate. But in the end, it wasnāt that hard to avoid a toll road. Just set your GPS to avoid-toll mode, and also pay attention to the road signs. We were able to successfully avoid all the toll roads during our 3 day trip in the DFW area.
The agent did tell us we could choose to sign up for the PlatePass, but if we didnāt use it, at the return time we can ask for a refund. But I doubt this would be an easy process and I suspect it was just a strategy to upsell the expensive PlatePass, so I declined. It could be true that they may refund you, but that means we would have to go back to the check-in counter, wait in line, and who knows if the conversation would be easy or not.
They donāt assign you a car at check-in, but instead you go to the parking lot and pick your own car (with the type you reserved, they will check when you drive out of the lot). The keys are in the cupholders. I like this way of rental as you donāt feel discriminated in any way as you choose your own rental car.
Most of the cars we saw were fairly high in mileage (20-40+K miles), but they were all clean and in great condition. We had no issue with the car during our rental period. The agent at the exit gate booth will check your rental agreement and validate you get the right car type, and will note down any existing damage of the car you could find. It was an easy check-out process.
The return process was also very straightforward. Follow the signs to get back to the level where the return area for Dollar Car Rental, the return inspection process took less than a minute and the agent verified my email for receipt and we were good to go.
Very pleased with this rental experience and with Dollarās car. Will totally rent from them again (if they are still the...
