Air Systems Mechanical has cost me over 1000 hours of sleep. I hired them to install a brand new top of the line heater 3 years ago and there have been noise and vibration issues since the day it was installed. The equipment has been blamed from the beginning.
They tried to solve the problem for around a year and made no progress. I got a call from Sam the owner and he basically told me to take my business elsewhere. I brought up online reviews and he agreed to continue troubleshooting. Various other steps were tried with no success. Trane sent a field rep and an engineer to check the equipment and even replaced the outdoor unit. The noise and vibration remained. Around the 3 year mark Air Systems Mechanical decided to walk away and leave it as my problem. In my last phone call with Sam he called me a difficult consumer, told me not to bother him anymore, and hung up on me.
I was left with two apparent but equally unacceptable options. I could either learn to live with very little sleep in the winter or trash the system I just finished paying off and buy something else. I scoured the internet looking for a third option. Finally I came across an installation manual for the unit posted by a HVAC company in Texas. I noticed several discrepancies between the manual and the actual install. I emailed Sam and his service manager to let them know and offered to remove my negative reviews if they could rectify the situation. My email was ignored and used against me in one of their replies saying something about āgiving into my demandsā. Next I posted excerpts from the install manual and what I found with the actual install. In attempting to refute me online and telling me everything that they had done correctly they unwittingly led me to what I believe is the root of the problem. The PVC pipe that runs through the concrete block to connect the outdoor and indoor unit is completely loose in the wall. They claim it was sealed with mortar and silicone when the unit was installed. I have provided pictures and it is obvious this was not done. It looks like the original sealant from when the house was built 30 years ago with big gaps between the PVC and concrete. I now know this is what is referred to as system isolation. It is explicitly stated in the installation manual that this needs to be done properly to alleviate sound and vibration transmission. I am confident correcting this will solve the problem. I will update once I know for sure.
Air Systems Mechanical has responded to all my posts with lists of reasons why the noise and vibration issues are not their fault. What they have not done is addressed the lack of proper system isolation (as described in the manual) and explained why the PVC (as shown in the pictures) was not secured and sealed correctly when the system was installed. At this point any response from them other than an apology and an offer to rectify this is just further evidence of how far they are willing to go to shirk responsibility and try to cover up their mistake.
All the employees I worked with at Air Systems Mechanical were extremely friendly and professional. They were so focused on a system issue I can almost forgive them overlooking this installation issue. The way however I have been treated by Sam the owner is...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI received quotes last fall to replace my furnace/ac unit from at least a half dozen companies. The quote I received from Air Systems Mechanical was very competitively priced based on the quality of equipment they offered. Despite my instincts and positive past experience with Air Systems Mechanical, I chose to go with another contractor. I ended up with lesser quality equipment and a sub-standard install to save a few $100. The equipment worked but I was very disappointed in the quality of the installation, especially the lack of attention to detail that I expect from a professional. I immediately called Air Systems Mechanical and they were willing to discuss my concerns with the installation despite not originally installing the equipment. They addressed my concerns by replacing the sheet metal installed by the previous contractor with sheet metal that was precisely measured and fabricated to fit my system. Their work and attention to detail was superior and above the standards I expect from a professional and a reputable company. I ended up paying more than the original quote I received from Air Systems Mechanical with lesser quality equipment. Donāt make the same mistake I did and go with Air Systems Mechanical. I will be using them for all my...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreAll aspects of this company is 5 stars from the first contact with Leah to the estimate with John to the quality of installation to the installers themselves to the follow up after installation. I contacted Air Systems Mechanical to install a whole new hvac system (gas furnace, air conditioner, chimney flue liner) after several local companies gave me estimates but never returned calls after the estimate. ASM was far away from me as I live in Weirton WV and even though several other hvac companies closer than them stated i was out of their service area ASM stated they covered my area. John was on time for scheduled site visit made several suggestions and stated no problem installing AC on the oher side of a deck not yet completed. He sent me 3 estimates each with different options and prices, on the scheduled day for install installers were on time worked all day for 2 days cleaned up everything after and did a fantastic job. I received the warranty registration confirmation in the mail for my 10 year warranty and even a thank you note from the owner with his contact information if i had any problems or questions. Fantastic service and fantastic company. This is the only hvac company to call for service on your hvac or to...
