My family goes weekly, we love it... When we first started going, it was easy to pick out flaws, but after a while you realize that the crowd changes day to day. On one day there could be a few bad apples on the skate floor but the next day everyone is super nice. The music changes depending on who is working, I have personally witnessed the manager get on to the person managing the play list - especially on family days. Management wants family days to be just that - Family days!.. I have never witnessed the manager be rude to anyone, (even when I think he should have). I recall when I was less experienced I would get frustrated at the faster more experienced skaters - I felt like I was going to be run over... Now that I come regularly I realize that the more experienced skaters will not run you over, it just seems that way, in fact - I never see the regulars run into anyone. So now I have to sit back and internally chuckle when I hear the parents of the younger children complaining about the experienced skaters being dangerous... (I can relate, but now I know better - so I just smile) So parents, its not the good skaters you have to worry about - its the ones that are just getting good enough to try to go fast (management does call these skaters out when its evident they are being reckless). To the people concerned about the music being played - they offer a variety of skating days. Day time skating, Tuesday evenings, and Sundays are family oriented, there might be an occasional oops song, but usually not.. Wednesday evenings are 2 dollar night and music is very eclectic - I love to see some of the old school skaters show up for this session - the talent can be enjoyable to watch. Thursday evenings they play christian music - for some people this is a big draw and for others it might seem blah, I have been on a few Thursdays and I would have never though "Christian music" could be so good. Honestly I didn't even realize it wasn't trendy top 40 or hip hop. Thursdays are not over crowded and the music has a good beat - in my opinion its the perfect day to go if you don't like questionable song lyrics and you want to go to a true "family session". The music is not preachy, just enjoyable. Friday and Saturday nights are not intended for young children, those sessions cater to the teen/young adult crowd. As an older mother with teens I enjoy Friday nights, but Saturday nights are to crowded and loud for me. There is security on staff for the Saturday night session, so there is some peace of mind for parents of teens. If you are taking your family on a Saturday night, expect typical teen behavior when they dont have parents influencing or correcting them. Some teens behave well and others do not - these experience are necessary for teens beginning to branch out become more independent. I am over 40 and I just personally dont feel the need to hangout in a location where teens are socializing. (Fridays are not crowded like Saturdays and therefore security is not needed on Fridays) .... I am glad that there are places to skate in Fayetteville, many rinks across the US have closed. Take your kids skating and enjoy spending time with them. Take pictures so they can one day show their children what their childhood experiences were. And moms, skating is good exercise, its amazing how skating regularly can lift those hard to lift areas (wink) im sure you know...
Ā Ā Ā Read morePlease share this story for me. I need this to go viral.
I take my family to Round-A-Bout Skating Center in Fayetteville, North Carolina (Raeford Rd 71st) on August 19, 2023. Iāve visit this particular place dozen of time in the past two years. This was my first bad experience Iāve ever had there. Itās was the worst. So, After walking in and getting my kids rental skates, my fiancĆ©, and I attempted to go retrieve are skates from our vehicle. At this time we were approach by a armed security guard whoās an older white gentleman. I was told I couldnāt leave my key inside unattended so you cannot walk out the building. I informed this gentleman that I was going to get my skates out of my car which is right outside the door. one of the other security guard and the manager told him he is just going to get his skates. This gentleman who is armed with a fire arm in a skating rink with 100 teenagers. 85% of the crowd is Black. still goes on to tell me I canāt go out of the building without taking my kids and then told me to shut up and that I had listen to him. I do have a picture of this man but I choose not to show it at this time.
So at this point Iām livid. My fiancĆ© one of the other security guards and the manager calm me down and told me donāt worry about it. The Manager ask me to go have a good time with my family.
This is the disturbing part. The rest of the time my family was there. 2 1/2 hours. The same gentleman followed us around. Yes followed me, my kids, and my fiancĆ© around this whole skating rink all night. I donāt remember feeling this uncomfortable unless I was pulled over by a races police officer.
My family and I feel threatened my kids never want to go skating again. We should not have to go anywhere as black parents. They take care of our families, law-abiding citizens and have to deal with ignorant, racist white men with guns in an establishments especially where the crowd is 85% black.
This white arm security guard should not be allowed to work especially around a crowd predominately black being racist. I will never go to this establishment again. I recommend that you donāt either. We live in a town were 80% of all businesses are black owned. This is the number one city in the United States of America for black owned business. This is black Wall Street.
I pray this reaches the owner of this establishment, and he or she make changes immediately.
If anyone needs more information about this situation, please email me or inbox me.
Thank...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIt was an okay experience. It was crowded and this could be that from 7p-11p on Saturday s it $10 admission and free skate rental. But it was definitely packed and emotions started to run high in the atmosphere which obviously hapoens often here as there are at least 2 cops on duty in side during this time. The bathrooms have doors the swing like old saloon doors for the stalls with no locks and a nearly 2 in gap where people can see in while you are in the stall. Because of the large crowds the expect on Saturday nights young children cannot use the walker devices to skate. So this not listed outside the entrace before you pay you only find out once you get in and get your skates and spend the night holding up a child. This was rough with an autoimmune disorder. Then DJ was playing mostly songs he wanted to hear. It was up to date for the most part and a good mix but obviously for an adult crowd. Genuine My Pony should probably not be play or maybe there were a few other even dirtier songs and I knew them but you get my drift the target audience was 14 and under. We also asked him to give a child in our group a birthday shout out. He agreed saying after a particular song (that he never played- we never asked for either). He never did it! Here is the thing there, you cpuld have easily said, we cannot do it, we cannot do it if you have not purchased a party through us, or simply no, I would rather not. There was no need to lie. I understand the man is probably bothered all day long so when a woman in my party asked him to do so and he did not, I feel she had a right to feel a bit annoyed. Most of the children had a good night though and it was a good change of pace. If I can help it though we will have to do another place or at the very least another night. Perhaps one with a skate shop to purchase skates and that can exchange parts on skates that get worn. Soon I would be using my...
