I really like their chocolate and their efforts towards sustainability but I went in today on my lunch break and I was not treated right by a man I think was the owner. I came in and thought wow what a cute place! I loved the green stucco outside and the decor and layout inside. An employee welcomed me from the open kitchen as he worked and I was greeted by a woman named either Sharon or Shannon. She was super friendly and toured me around the shop. She showed me the different kinds of chocolate they offered and explained their process for making it as well as offering me some samples. I really liked her. Things turned bad when I was ready to check out. There were 2 ladies who’d been having a similar experience with another employee(was he the owner?) One of the ladies had been stacking chocolates by the register and explained to me she just didn’t want them to melt in her hands while she shopped. I totally understood that and said so. When I was ready to check out the owner waited for her to finish then checked her out ahead of me even though I’d been waiting and she hadn’t been ready yet. She, her friend, and the owner then proceeded to have a long conversation about someone else she knew who opened a chocolate shop in another city. This went on and on and I just needed to check out. It was so bad Sharon mouthed she was sorry to me and offered me a truffle sample while I waited. I accepted and said thank you. Even after I finished they were still talking and they weren’t even checking out now, they were just talking and blocking the register. Eventually Sharon asked them to step aside so she could ring me up she gave me a discount and another free sample for my trouble and I finally got to pay.
I don’t think it’s likely I’ll come back any time soon. I think I was treated very rudely by the owner and it made me feel very unwelcome there. I partially feel I should have left and not spent my money there but Sharon was so very nice and I stayed because of her. I don’t know why the owner acted the way he did. I don’t want to speculate because I don’t know what was going on inside his mind. He could have just been rude or oblivious, or it could’ve been something else, but no matter what the reason, I felt very unwelcome there and like he really didn’t want my business or valued me...
Read moreWhen around 4.45 pm we arrived to Eldora , after getting amused with the decorations , chocolate smell and small details a big smile popped from the main door saying WELCOME . This polite and kind lady asked me how I heard about them , and told her we were from Miami and one of the must to I found in internet before traveling to Albuquerque was this homemade chocolate spot . I am so bad with names , I remember her as the kind lady with a big smile . We were soo curious , and she told us everything about how is the chocolate made and even showed us the cocoa beans . The variety of the chocolate they produce, the difference in flavors and percentages!! They are artist there guys , I have never seen before a place with so much love in what they do . After taking my Guatemala hot chocolate we bought a fine box with truffles for some friends since we were about to travel to LA next day . So much love there , I promised to do a nice review for you guys , and here it is . Thank you for every single detail. I hope to come back someday. Even though I don’t remember your name kind lady...
Read moreLooking at the other raving reviews here, you don’t need me to reiterate how incredible their house-made chocolate bars (single origin, chocolate only, very creative flavor combos such as zesty mango piñon, chile lime, etc. etc.), truffles, drinking chocolate, brownies, icecream sundaes are (we are truly lucky to have them in town). I’m here to tell you about an amazing tour I had today with my 6 year old with Danielle. Danielle made sure the tour was geared towards the young audience and was very engaging. The tour encompasses history, geography, farming practices, and the process of making beans into chocolates. We learned so much in the one hour tour. At the end of the tour we got to taste several different chocolates and understand what to look for in the process. We were also offered their delicious hot chocolate. If you have a young chocolate lover, I cannot recommend this enough! Please note- the chocolates are on the darker side and some kiddos may find them a bit too bitter for their liking, but never too early to refine their palate with...
