I agree with the review which characterized the manager as disrespectful and rude.
I found some of the employees to be very wonderful people. And, I was having some very pleasant interactions with several employees as I browsed about.
The manager approached me and proceeded to lecture (borderline scold) me that the employees have work to do and that he'll be answering my questions. He then proceeded to do an incompetent job at answering my questions before disengaging and saying he had other things to do.
Does this manager not understand the basic conventions of both business practices and normal social life?
To the first point, a business is generally eager to answer questions about their products so people buy them.
To the second point, normal American life conventionally involves conversations, humor and the exchange of ideas.
This little manager has a baffling view of how social life should unfold. What he lectured me about is the very basic substance of life: conversation.
Furthermore, why on earth is this unusual individual lecturing me about the topic: particularly in such a rude manner?
Why isn't he telling his employees the parameters of their role and how much conversation is permitted before they politely disengage.
I am a friendly individual and I'll chat with employees at different businesses. I AM NOT doing anything wrong by behaving in a friendly manner. I am behaving in a normal manner that contributes to a pleasant and normal society. It is good if people are being friendly with each other.
The actual shop is spacious and nice. Many of the employees seem to be very decent people. It's a shame that this little manager ruined what could have been a wonderful experience for me on two occasions.
I should have learned after the first time. Well, I've learned now. I will not be visiting Osuna Nursery again, and I'd encourage you to try...
Read moreI visit this place a few times a year, usually in response to an event they're holding, to hear someone talk about a topic I'm interested in. I don't recommend shopping here unless you are pretty much a plant expert yourself, because the staff here is not knowledgeable. First, if you can even find someone to help you, that person will tell you he/she doesn't really know much beyond what's on the plant tag. (So if you can read, don't bother to go looking for any personal help.) I found a plant where the info on the tag differed from the info on the label glued to the pot. Not one person in the store could tell which info was correct!
Here's a recent experience: I was interested in purchasing some of the large rocks that formed part of an outdoor display. I asked an employee if these rocks were for sale, and if so, how to go about buying some. First, she didn't know anything about the displays, even their location (and there were only 3 of these on the premises!) and she didn't know about how to buy any of the items. Nor did she move an inch to figure out how to get info. Where was she stationed? At the CUSTOMER SERVICE desk. So this gives you an idea of what passes for customer service here.
So, this is a good place to look for plants IF you know what you're doing in the garden, and can't find enough interesting specimens elsewhere. (Osuna's prices are also very high. Plantworld had a sale on a plant that was 3 times the cost at Osuna.) Look around before you buy at Osuna. But, do go for their special functions with free hot dogs and lemonade, or to hear someone talk on a gardening subject that interests you.
But beware of Osuna's (nonexistent) customer service, and higher than...
Read moreI am very disappointed in my recent transaction with Osuna Nursery. I was excited to take advantage of their recent parking lot sale 4 weeks ago as I have a large landscaping project underway. I purchased 4 New Mexico Privets (at full price), 1 Capitol Pear & 1 Purple Robe Locust (both on sale at 50 % off). After the 6 bags of Back to Earth and root simulator, total was about $800. I planted all of the trees correctly, staked them down, watered the appropriate amount etc. After 3 weeks of being in the ground, I woke up to the Purple Robe Locust on the ground, broken at the base. After inspection, the 2" trunk at the base was rotten through almost the entire width of the trunk. No biggie right...I'm sure Osuna will be happy to assist with store credit to help replace the cost of the rotten tree they sold, right? Nope, they do not offer refunds on "sale" items, and will not even assist with store credit. If I had planted the tree incorrectly, I would totally understand, but that's not the case. They sold me a rotten tree at $175, and are totally unwilling to help make it right. I spoke with a manager, who said "she'd call the GM and see what they could do". About 2 minutes later she called back with the answer of "we do not warranty sale items, sorry."
This is just a warning to anybody looking to purchase from this store. I'm sure 99% of their inventory is great, but if you're unlucky like me and end up wasting $175 on a "sale" tree, just know it's probably on sale for a reason. In my case that reason was it was rotten...aka garbage. Oh well, I guess they don't need every customer to be happy...and I guess I'll just need to purchase the rest of my trees, shrubs,...
