Hill's Meat Market — Local services in Fort Wayne

The message you get at Hill's is a little schizoid. On the one hand it's definitely a small (in a GOOD way) neighborhood store - that neighborhood definitely being Waynedale. On the other hand, the "neigbhorliness" kind of evaporates if you choose to observe all the many, many signs that greet you. Stand around before or after you shop? Probably not, because that would violate the "no loitering" policy. And don't relax TOO much. After all, you're "on camera!" And we all know in 2021 not to smoke but we still get warned about it. And finally, do NOT come here if you have to use the bathroom because unlike in the days before they built the nice new store, they ain't got one so you'll just have to hold it. But to be fair and more positive, they have a great meat counter and deli and they have a nice wall of reduced stuff - especially lots of bread and buns, which is good since the days of the bread thrift stores seem to be gone. Edit after owner replied: Didn't say a word about "soliciting," pal. You don't want your customers - you know, the nice folks of Waynedale who give you your business? - you don't want them "loitering." It's get in, get that money in our till and get out! And do NOT hang around or chat. That would be "loitering." I make a point of looking and running as fast as I can. No telling which of your signs I might be violating or get me in trouble...

Thank you HILLS , NO THANKSGIVING IN THIS HOUSE . EVER year I order a bird first of November, for two years you made excuses that I had to take a bigger bird ! This year you try to make me take one darn near twice the size I ordered. First why take order and ask what size . Then can not ever fill that order? Two why take phone number ? Cause it not to show a courtesy to YOUR CUSTOMERS, and call them and express your sorrow about not filling the order. So I have cancel THANKSGIVING and made it clear why . Put all blame for no dinner on HILLS MEAT MARKET. And for you that read this , why take what you didn't order, would you order a white car and take a red one . I hope not ! This is just complete loss of customer SERVICE!!!!!! Additional: they called me and here news everyone they order birds in August, and just admitted that you will take what they ordered or you...

We bought a pork bundle that advertised an Ossian smoked ham to be included in the bundle. Be aware that it is actually a Hoosier Pride Pork Shoulder. I did not notice this until I took it out of my freezer for our Christmas dinner. It is NOT the same as an Ossian Ham, it was so fatty and salty that even the part that was meat felt like fat when chewed. We could not eat it, we put it in the garbage, it ruined our Christmas dinner. I called Hills to complain, all he could say was that it was made by Ossian so that is what you get and people complained that Ossian ham was too dry so they give the pork shoulder, I can't believe that. We were cheated out of a good ham and given a cheap fatty pork shoulder and they did not care or even try to make it right. They are not the good meat market that they used to be, you can't depend on good quality....
