I will start by saying that I am expecting my review to be met with a response telling me that I am in the wrong as I am seeing it is a common theme for this company on VRBO, Google, and Yelp. That should tell and show new customers a lot about this rental company. My family and I rented a cabin in Grand Lake last weekend through VRBO. We honestly loved the cabin and location- we had a fantastic time and would have 100% rented through this company again had they not responded the way they did when we brought an issue to their attention upon our departure. I got bed bugs staying in their cabin. The day after we left I had to make a dermatologist appointment, where they infact said it was bed begs, to get prescription anti-itch cream and oral steroids as my entire body was covered in bites and I was so swollen I could barely open my eyes. This visit wasn’t cheap nor something I should expect after staying and paying in full. I work in healthcare myself and there is no question that what I got is bed bugs- in fact, it’s clear as day per the dermatologist. We found black bugs in the bag we had sitting by our guest room bed as well and had to throw it away immediately. When we reached out to address this- as we were told the cabin was rented out the day we were leaving, we were concerned for the next guests, especially if they were children because I am a grown woman and this is painful as hell. When we reached out it was a pleasant conversation to begin with. We sent them photos of the bites and black bugs in the bag immediately. They told us they were sending out an inspection team and would get back to us. When they did- they basically told us our claims were false and there’s nothing they can do. Instead of doing the easy and morally right thing, they chose to do the difficult and shameful thing. Black mold in toilets, terribly stained carpets, missing linens off beds, beds were advertised as side by side and where we arrived they were stacked in bunkbeds (my family physically were unable to use them), no Ac and fans were broke, bathtub would not drain when showering, WiFi did not work, missing parking pass and overall customer service was something I’ve never experienced before. We were at the property for 15 hours total because we conditions were awful and even after following the instructions implicitly, we received no help. The property manager and 24 hr back up customer service they claim to have were not able to be reached by myself and VRBO. Needless to say they have you sign a rental agreement that only protects them and only allows you to go through formal arbitration if you have concerns. You are not allowed to dispute charges or even have a civil conversation with Ashley Sectin (manager) or Brittany Hilgers (director of operations) without them treating you as if it was your fault. I was charged for my stay even though we could not remain at the property because they deemed it “habitable” and even charged me the $300 cleaning fee that the renter ahead of me paid! I arrived and the unit was filthy!! We rented and paid a fortune for Sawatch Chalet (Rental Property 450095) in the prestigious Arrowhead community. Reservation Number: 352327 (Arrival Date: 03/24/2024 Departure Date: 04/01/2024). Upon arrival we were informed that the master bedroom shower was inoperable and unresolvable. It was suggested that our family share the downstairs bathroom. The downstairs bathroom was a utility shower that required a wrench to turn on/off! Otherwise, the property was a neglected luxury property 20 years past its prime, where none of the fancy equipment in the listing functioned properly. It was dusty, the linens were worn, the wifi did not work, and the gourmet kitchen was full of dishes and pans that were put away dirty.
Customer service was super distant and vibey 'that sucks, bro, it should be better for you' with no offer for resolution or refund.
The Mountain Vacation Lodging 'agency' is fronting luxury properties as ready-to-go, but in reality they are either mid-renovation or past their prime. If you need a house, I suggest you find a more moderate but pristine property from a local family or individual.
