In response to the owner's comment...please listen the call recording before responding to my complains. I did not assume a single thing and very well understand the difference between 5 - 7 Calendar days and business days. The lady who called clearly told that the item will be shipped from India and they just have an office in new jersey. I had absolutely no issues in getting the item within 7 Business days. The supervisor was too arrogant to tell me "Do you even understand what it means by shipping out to you within 5 -7 business days"? In his own word "it means we shall ship within 5-7 business days from our end and then will give you the tracking no to track". But yes. They did mention that if I pay $15 more then they can ship on time, which I refused to pay as I felt cheated. So please, go back and listen the conversation before you make any comment. And if you really think this is against your policy , kindly educate your customer service representatives accordingly.
And for the consumers, if you are wondering whether they have a real presence in NJ, please google their address and check the googleMap view. Its either a residential address or a Suite just to have a registered address. I should have checked this before placing the order. 17 Clyde Rd #201, Somerset, NJ 08873
The worst online shopping experience ever. I ordered a $100 hoop earring as a gift on 26th November 2:00 PM EST. Looking at the website I was convinced that they have a presence in NewJersey and after placing the order it was mentioned that it will take 5-7 business days to ship the product. I paid $7 shipping fee as well. I received a call next morning around 11AM (EST). A lady told me that they operate from India. In New Jersey they just have an office and earliest they can ship my order on 6th December from India. When I told them that while placing the order online it was clearly mentioned that it will take 5 - 7 days for shipping she corrected me saying that is just an approximate timeline and they only consider that timeline to ship from India and then it will take its own sweet time to reach in USA as per the standard shipping time. She asked me to pay $15 more to expedite the process. When I asked her if I can cancel my order as I need the product by December 7th for a rice ceremony occasion, she mentioned that I have to pay 15% restocking fee. I was literally shocked. 15% restocking fee for an order placed less than 24 hours that they cannot ship before another 7 days? I completely failed to understand what exactly the restocking fees is all about? Also, they mentioned that they cant refund the money if the product is not up to my expectation. They can exchange but I have to pay to ship it back to India at my own risk and expense. The super rude supervisor asked me if I understand the meaning of "shipping out to you"? Well, after using online retail services for years I guess its not that difficult statement to understand. I did make a big mistake by not reading their policy as I assumed that they do care for their consumers like any other trust worthy online shopping sites. Thankfully I only spent $100 for the baby earring and decided to pay the restocking fees and cancel as I lost all trust with this retailer. Luckily in US the consumer protection forum is very strong and they take actions against this kind of deceptive business practices. I shall reach FTC bureau with my experience and Totaram Jewellers's policy document as mentioned in their online website. Hope this review will save others from loosing their hard...
Read moreI ordered a pair of earrings from totaram. The lady who helped me order was ok n i landed up ordering. She told me once u get the order u cannot cancel or return the order because its a made to order item.I had to wait 4 weeks for the order . I said ok n paid full in advance (4 pm usa time) after a couple of hours ( next day 9 am usa time -less than 24 hrs) i changed my mind and wished to cancel the order i emailed them then immediately called them but the owner Raj refused n said if i want the money i need to pay 15% restocking fee for a item he claims has started manufacturing ( if they are so prudent then y i have to wait 4 weeks to get the order ( all lies he will say to not give money back). I was taken aback that this is pure cheating in the name of policies that are only protecting the business. He was super rude on the phone n also disrespectful. These ppl want to do business in USA but customer service is horrible. Once u pay in full u realise its a TRAP u walked into.lately with big indian jeweler’s opening up in a lot of cities in Usa n their online websites shipping to usa . I reallised u dont need jewellers like totaram . Also they dont share online receipt with breakup as to whats the gold rate n diamond rate for the item according to the weight.its a SCAM stay away from them .
I feel its important to reply to your justification totaram. Your reply is disappointing and, frankly, dishonest in several areas.
Yes, I was informed about your policies, but what you fail to acknowledge is how quickly I reached out to cancel—less than 24 hours after placing the order. You claim production had already started, which is highly questionable given the 4-week timeline for delivery. Let’s be honest: this was simply an excuse to avoid refunding the money. If your team can begin manufacturing that fast, perhaps your delivery timeline should reflect that. You can’t have it both ways.
As for the “detailed invoice” you mentioned—no such document with a clear breakdown of gold rates, diamond value, and labor cost was ever shared with me. Listing a total amount and vague specifications is not transparency. If you're confident in your pricing, why not share a full breakdown upfront?
The conversation with Raj was not “firm but polite” as you suggest. It was rude, disrespectful, and dismissive. Just because I expected fairness and accountability does not make me an “unreasonable” customer.
This experience made it very clear that once you receive payment, your concern for the customer disappears. Hiding behind rigid policies, refusing to make exceptions when genuinely warranted, and gaslighting unhappy customers is not the way a professional business behaves—especially one claiming a 120-year legacy.
Your response only reinforced my view that others should be extremely cautious before dealing with Totaram. I stand by my...
Read moreI have emailed you with the defect on product details but did not get any reply or justification ,also called couple of times on the number which directly goes on voice. I am sorry but this is not the way to treat with customers when the item is sold and you have got the money. I want you to fix my product or refund me my full amount if you cannot fix it. You have my email and no, email me if you cannot reach me on my number. This is Utter nonsense and it comes from a extremely unsatisfied customer with the very first purchase on my item with totaram jewellers. I am not sure how legitimate this company is in US, I should have researched more before trusting them with my money but everyone making any expensive purchase in future should know that here in USA if you buy your product before1 day or 1 year, you have full right and can file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission. Your complaint may help FTC and US law enforcement partners detect patterns of fraud and abuse, which may lead to investigations and eliminate unfair business practices done in any time or duration. The FTC cannot resolve individual complaints but they will definitely detect patterns of fraud and abuse. I have gone through worst experience with this jeweller as my hard earned money is gone due to careless of these people, when they order jewellery from India I doubt they hardly check the product ,if they have been careful than I could not have got defective piece. Nomatter, its 30 days or 1 year the Business should be responsible for the products they sell to consumers and if product is defective while sending to consumers its the business responsibility to take care of things GRACEFULLY. If they are not then don't hesitate to file a complaint to FTC with whom I have talked about...
