Updated I workout at both St Clair Shores and Fraser location, third location is in Mt Clemens. Have not visited, but location is too far for a regular gym commute. Iâll start with the good: -Gym membership includes multiple facilities. -both locations have have a good amount of Dumbbells, although SCS location has less, if I need heavier DBâs for my workout I go to Fraser. -New/cool equipment at SCS location. (SSB bar, arsenal strength equipment, fat Ez bar) -Fraser location has more equipment, makes up slightly for SCS not having all the equipment I would like to have in a gym. Willing to update rating if facility improves Reasons for lost of stars: SCS location: -limited equipment, no quality seated calf, no hack squat, no abductor/adductor machine, -havenât tried the hip thruster here but the one at Fraser is absolutely trash so if itâs the same brand/style wouldnât recommend. -1 deadlift platform, I donât normally deadlift here because I do hack squats in my deadlift day and there is no hack squat, so I go to fraser for the hack squat. refer to fraser to why I donât like deadlifting there though. (Catch 22 here) -titan fitness curl machine. I actually like Titan fitness. I own their equipment for my home gym. But it is a cheap brand, hence why I buy for my home gym. For personal gyms their equipment is fine but for a commercial gym I think itâs cheap to go with them since a high volume of people use the equipment and pay, Iâd recommend the gym should probably supply a higher quality.
Fraser location: (I have less issues with this location, but itâs about 10 minutes further of a drive than SCS) -No rubber plates, only hex, try DLâs with hex plates and youâll understand. -low quality Hip thrust machine (absolute trash of a machine, hit spot joints with plates and 45 touch ground) -not a fan of the barbell bench presses at this location. My arms are too short for the top rack position, but too long for the low rack position. Either an adjustable barbell rack would be ideal based on individual arm lengths. Not a deal breaker I just bench in a squat rack here, Iâm sure other members love...
Read moreMAC Gym - Fraser is basically my second home! I'd like to point out a few examples of why this place has cultivated a culture of excellence and accomplishment:
Gary and Jeff (the owners and managers) have put their heart into their gyms. The latest location in Fraser is a direct result of true care for the industry they are in. Be sure to say hi to them anytime you can, they are approachable!
The staff at MAC Fraser are unmatched. Taylor is by far the best trainer on staff, Ava is a remarkable manager, and the consistency of having staff around makes me feel comfortable coming in every day.
Lastly, there are a lot of changes that have taken place with the new ownership, such as re-upholstering all machines and benches, repainting the gym, and other general cosmetic changes for the better. There are classes that are ran out of the work-out studio within the gym itself.
Some other pros: cleanliness, 24/7 access, membership at all 3 facilities (Mt. Clemens, St. Clair Shores) plenty of equipment, and a friendly environment. They even have a great smoothie bar (:
What MAC Gym can improve on within their gym:
I believe MAC needs to continue to grow our Fraser location more. The social media presence with our club is minimal compared to the other two locations.
Please note that the free training assessment is only given once, and the next step would be to sign-up for private training sessions - this can be quite the commitment for some, so please read and discuss all terms before you sign any paper.
I think it would be fun to see community events or sponsored events at some point. Add in some gym-related giveaways, member highlights/achievements, etc. Just something to give back to the members that are continuously using their services. I firmly believe it does go both ways!
All in all, MAC Gym Fraser is a wonderful gym in a convenient location at a great price. The staff is friendly, the members are consistent, and the gym is clean. I challenge you to find another gym that can even keep up with...
Read moreWarning for anyone looking to do the 30 free trial they advertise on their website.
TL:DR: Membership prices are $100-$300 down and $40-$50 per month, you need to do a personal training session before starting the free trial (they don't tell you that until you go in), and they try to get you to sign a 12 month non cancelable membership the first time you step in the gym.
I signed up for just that then they texted saying I would have to come in for a tour before beginning the trial. When I came in for the tour, it started with a long list of questions without seeing any of the gym yet. When we finally got out on the floor she started a personal training session with lat pulldowns and asking me to do high knees... I was told it was a tour so i'm wearing jeans and a sweatshirt. After she noticed I wasn't happy with that we go back to the office and she immediately starts trying to get me to sign a 12 month contract for a plans requiring $100-$300 down and $40-$50 a month. I said I'm not willing to start a gym contract right now and just wanted to do a trial to check out the gym she basically said I would need to do a personal training session before I can start the trial. I was just looking for a basic gym to start going to and this whole experience was incredibly frustrating. Also there is no way to cancel their memberships you would have to find someone to take it over like you would a sublease an apartment. It doesn't look like a bad gym but I don't like the way they run it, their pushy sales strategy and how much they...
