Western River Expeditions â Grand Canyon, AZ âď¸âď¸âď¸âď¸âď¸ (Wish I could give them six!)
Let me just say it: this was not just a tripâit was a full-blown Grand adventure down the Colorado River, complete with laughter, rapids, jaw-dropping scenery, and⌠a cobbler miracle.
From the moment we hit the river, our crewâLucky, Steph, Caden, and Jaceâmade sure we felt safe, informed, and seriously entertained. They learned all our names faster than I learn my Wi-Fi password, which made everything feel personal and welcoming right from the start.
Now letâs talk foodâbecause wow. This wasnât your standard âcamping chili and mystery granolaâ situation. Weâre talking real, delicious, belly-happy meals. There was a minor tragedy involving a doomed pecan pie (RIP), but fear notâJace casually whipped up a cobbler from scratch like some kind of wilderness wizard. And yes, it was delicious.
Steph captained our raft like she was born in the whitewater (âlike a bossâ doesnât even do her justice). Lucky kept everything running smoothly while charming the kids and cracking jokes, and Caden serenaded us with his ukulele one night after dinner. If thatâs not luxury river life, I donât know what is.
We had two rafts, 14 guests each, and by the end of the trip it felt like a big, sun-kissed family reunion (minus the awkward cousins). Everyone was friendly, helpful, and happy to be unplugged and present in such a breathtaking place.
Hydration? Covered. Sun safety? Covered. Good vibes? Overflowing. If youâre even thinking about a Grand Canyon rafting trip, stop thinking and book with Western River Expeditions. Trust meâyouâll come back with stories, friendships, and probably a craving for cobbler. If you want to know what a Grover is, you have to participate in one of these rafting tours. Groovers = If you...
Read moreJust back from our second white water rafting trip down the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon with Western River Expeditions. Our first trip was 16 years ago, and we then swore to repeat the experience with our grandkids. That time finally came, and Western River once again delivered an exceptional experience. The Western crew are master boatmen and transported us through the many rapids with total control and safety. Our group of nine ranged in age from 9 to 76 and all felt comfortable and watched over even as we navigated through some mighty rapids. One of our guides, Bridger, kept an eagle eye on our two nine-year-olds as we bounced through the bigger rapids. Thanks to his instruction, they were able to maintain their grip on the rope line and safely transit even the biggest rapids. The only sound louder than the roaring water were the joyful screams and laughter. The trip runs like clockwork thanks to the careful planning of Western. Food and equipment were first rate. We slept on cots under a sky filled with more stars than can be imagined, this is truly a memory that will last a lifetime. Weâve been fortunate enough to travel to every continent and have cruised above the Arctic Circle and below the Antarctic Circle. This was our...
Read moreJust returned from a 6-day Grand Canyon trip with Western. I had high expectations going into it based on what I had heard from other people who had been on a trip...and my expectations were exceeded.
I couldn't have asked for a better group of guides (Kiefer, Paul, Joe and Mark) for our adventure. They MADE the trip. Literally and figuratively. Whatever Western is paying them in wages, they should double it. They inspired us with words of wisdom, history, and humor each morning and throughout each day. They were no-nonsense when we were in dangerous situations, but incredibly fun and kind the rest of the time.
They set the expectation right from the start that we were going on an expedition, not a river cruise. If you have to have running water and/or strict dietary needs to have an enjoyable vacation, maybe a 6-day trip into one of the most wild places left in North America isn't the right choice for you. But if you are up for an adventure and can deal with whatever curve-balls Mother Nature may throw your way, then I honestly can't think of a better way to spend 6 days of precious time off from work than in the bottom of the Grand Canyon with Western River Expeditions.
Is it expensive? Yes. But, is it worth it?...
