Do NOT miss visiting Homestead Tribal Arts in Fredonia! You can pass on most Kanab souvenir tourist traps to get some unique souvenirs from local artisans at this shop. Kanab does have some shops that provide some unique sandstone souvenirs that Homestead doesn’t have, but that is not the focus of Homestead. Homestead Tribal Arts is a one of a kind gem where you can learn about and obtain all sorts of different gems from local native sources that are priceless. Only a 10 minute drive from Kanab! Our visit and purchases here are a major highlight of our visit and we obtained the best souvenirs to remember our experience and support local artisans. You HAVE to stop in here. We will forever remember and cherish our experience with Wayne, who provided the most polite, comprehensive and accommodating tour of the shop and the history behind it…..along with other tips and advice about the area and just a downright pleasant individual to talk with and learn about the area. We could have spent all day here easily. I can only relate it to the best local Native American experience that we have ever had, with the honor to be able to purchase memories. Kindest regards and sincerest thanks...
Read moreWife and myself are on a two week ride on our Bike from Georgia to Points unknown across this country that we love so much. I have been searching high and low for Native American arts and crafts without the tourist trap markup. I have searched at least a dozen shops between Wyoming and Arizona and finally found Wayne at the HOMESTEAD AND TRIBAL ARTS in Fredonia, Az. This is a GREAT shop with a fantastic selection of authentic Native American arts and crafts and an amazing selection of handmade silver jewelry and crafts made by Wayne himself who is an EXPERT silversmith with right at 50 years experience in the field. To top it off he is a fellow brother of the road and the place is as biker friendly as they come and they always welcome fellow scooter tramps into the shop to swap stories about the 'good ol days'. Wayne is a HELLUVA conversationalist and will gladly sit and shoot the sh#% with anyone who stops in to shop or just take in all the beautiful art. I am glad we made the hour and a half ride to the shop. While your there, ask Wayne about his old Shovel, and ask...
Read moreJust over the border from the booming tourist center of Kanab, UT, in the sleepy town of Fredonia, AZ, is a hidden gem of a shop full of authentic Native art at affordable prices. I almost passed it by thinking it looked more like another roadside souvenir shop, but I couldn’t have been more wrong! This place is packed with an eclectic array of authentic Indigenous jewelry, sculpture, rugs, art and more, primarily but not exclusively from the southwest. And shop manager Wayne is extremely knowledgeable and eager to share without pressuring you to buy - and an experienced silversmith in his own right. And one corner you’ll an affordable offering of fossils, petrified wood, and other ‘gems.’ I love looking for that one thing I must have, while Wayne shares the history and origin of everything in the shop. Forget the fancier shops in Kanab. This place is...
