Dos Vacas Muertas Bird Sanctuary — Local services in Galveston

We just visited here yesterday (coming down from Kansas City), and it was a sad scene. We were here last year and it was a beautiful sight to behold. At our visit this time, you could see weather events have taken a heavy toll on her. The fencing is mangled, the boardwalks are very overgrown, palm fronds are EVERYwhere and the industrial strength mosquitos are having massive conventions; they welcome you with open arms, too. Just spent some time in Galveston and visited this sanctuary. So many bird species! You can hear and see birds all around you. I visited morning and afternoon in the span of four days and saw something different every time. As a bird enthusiast, I was delighted. Good small site with a drip to attract migrants. The day we visited things were slow, but not the fault of the site. Still pulled out some excellent birds at mid-day, including Blue Grosbeaks, a White-tailed Kite and a Painted Bunting, and the habitat is excellent. Definitely...
