Condos are nice but plenty of fruit flies that due to a lack of deep cleaning are everywhere. Make sure to bring covers for all your meals. It has been constantly windy here every day too. It literally never stops.
The beach is decent sized and private, but there is a rattlesnake habitat warning between the facility and the beach. So if you are afraid of snakes, you have been warned, however we saw none during our stay.
The main pool is cold but fun, however there is no safety protection on the infinity edge of the pool, as a 4 ft drop to hard ground is on the other side of it. So make sure to keep an eye on your kids. The hot tub is integrated to that pool but it was crowded due to how cold the main pool was.
The price of required wrist bands to use amenities was inaccurate through Vacasa (they did refund us the difference, and finally updated the price on one of their postings). Vacasa said they would refund the rest of our bands for the other issues as outlined below, but that has yet to happen.
They advertised there is a restaurant on site, but there is no on site restaurant that is open. Permanently closed according to Pointe West.
The heated pool and lazy river was was closed for repairs and chemical treatment during the bulk of our stay. It opened on our last day. It is very warm but still being worked on garden wise so there are some minor safety issues.
Pointe West turned water off twice during our stay and we only were given a heads up the night before on both days. The water off started at 8AM each day. No running water throughout the complex. So we were forced to leave for bathing, cooking, bathrooms, and laundry. No compensation was received for this major inconvenience.
Overall Galveston made the trip better as we had plenty we could do in town. A fun place to be and lots of family friendly things to do. The duck boat, moody gardens, moody mansion, pleasure pier, naval museum, rainforest cafe and river ride...etc.
It is a 30 minute drive to town so be prepared for that...
Read moreOur favorite spot in Galveston. After 3 years of renting a condo we finally bought our own. From the kid friendly (and car free) beaches, to the restaurant with delicious food, and the two pools where the kids spend all their time - there's always something to do here.
PRO TIP: The condos and homes here are rented directly from owners, many are on VRBO, Vacasa, AirBnB, etc. This is not a hotel with a central reservation desk. Chose wisely. Reviews that reflect condo issues are typically issues with that particular condo, and not reflective of the property as a whole. Yes, there are mosquitos during some weeks in the summer -- it is Texas, after all. The bay side is typically worse than the beach side; and the beach and pool areas aren't nearly as bad as the garages and the grassy areas.
The elevator in the beach club is being replaced and should be completed shortly, with a plan to replace the elevators in the buildings in the works. Unfortunately stuff just doesn't seem to last in the high salt, high humidity environment...
Read moreI love going to the beach, and Pointe West has a long stretch of pristine, private beach that is maintained and kept clean by the management company.
If you also love the beach, but sometimes don’t want to deal with associated mess of the sand and salt water while we’re there, Pointe West has two pools, two hot tubs, a kids pool and a lazy river. There is also a palapa bar and restaurant at the beach club which add a significant convenience. Instead of spending time preparing food to pack up, we can throw on our bathing suits and head straight there.
Additional facilities include a gift shop in case you forgot sunscreen, beach hat, sunglasses or if you want souvenirs of your trip to Galveston. There is also a fitness center, a game room, men’s and women’s locker rooms with showers, poolside cabanas, two large gas grills if you feel inclined to have a cook out with your family.
This place has everything! Our family...
