Wayne's Package Store — Local services in Gardendale

I wanted to support a local small business and made a $500 purchase at Wayne’s Package Store for Christmas gifts. Unfortunately, I had a terrible experience with their billing process and customer service.

When I made my purchase, they had an issue running my card the first time but assured me the charge wouldn’t go through. They ran it again, promising to fix any issues should they arise. A week later, both charges posted to my credit card. When I called to resolve the issue, I was hung up on twice (apparently the clerk mistook me for a telemarketer). After finally speaking with a manager, I was told it was too long ago to fix (it had been 6 days), none of the employees remembered the sale, and I should dispute the charge with my credit card company.

Looking through the reviews, it seems I’m not alone in experiencing billing issues here. It’s disappointing because I wanted to support a local business, but I’ll be shopping elsewhere...

Wayne’s isn’t just a liquor store—it’s a North Jefferson cultural landmark, a therapy session with a receipt, and the only place I’ve ever heard someone say, “This Fireball pairs great with HOA trauma.”

Selection? Impeccable. Staff? Saints with a barcode scanner. Atmosphere? Like Cheers met Buc-ee’s and raised their child in Warrior, Alabama.

The employees are always polite and eager to help. I’ve read other reviews stating that they’re more expensive than other stores, and that’s just not true. The only cheaper liquor store would be a “State Store”. They offer a much larger selection than any of the other local stores. If you’re looking for either a cheap wine or an expensive bottle of liquor, they have it. They also have all of the ingredients that you’ll need to make the perfect cocktail. During the holidays, they always have a lot of excellent quality liquor gift selections. These beautifully boxed gifts would be perfect for friends, family members, employers, or businesses. Also, Wayne’s Package Store is one of two stores. The other side is a fully stocked 24/7 convenience store/gas station.
