This is the main visitor center for the north side of the Smokey Mountains. It's huge, fun, and crowded all at once! The interior has a large gift shop and a museum showing native animals and plants. Kids and families will love both. The restrooms are in the neighboring building. They're clean and spacious. A nature trail is in the back but you're likely better doing a trail elsewhere in the park unless you're disabled. Parking can be a bit tough during peak hours so arrive early! It will get crowded both inside and out.

Nice place to stop for bathrooms, park information, stamps, and a gift shop. The ranger we talked to was so helpful and informative about various things in the park, including planning when to go where for views, animal sightings, etc. He also gave us a park map and circled what we were looking for approximate drive times. We bought the National Parks passport book and look forward to using it!

The rangers are kind and very helpful. Get there early. If going on a mid difficulty or higher difficulty hike, BRING EXTRA WATER and appropriate shoes (no slippers or flat shoes. The trails are rocky.

To the kind ranger today that took the time to identify Rhododendron and explain to my four year old daughter all of its properties and a history of it’s uses, thank you. It meant the world to me to watch you take time out of your busy day to drop down on a knee and talk to her and educate her. My only regret is I didn’t catch your name. Thank you for going...
