I have shopped at this location for years and when it was Butera and it had amazing prices on quality deli meat every week. I went today after not being there for about month and the roast beef was $12/lb. I often got it around $5/lb and even less sometimes when it was Butera. The produce is well stocked and the quality is higher now than when it was Butera and the pricing is reasonably good compared to walmart/jewel/meijer.
Nearly everything else in the store that I typically would get is priced significantly higher than before.
I can see myself going here for produce when we don't want to make a trip to sycamore but the pricing of most everything else I buy, likely has me just buying larger quantities at walmart/meijer at the lower price.
The store is definitely much nicer now and organized better for sure. But, bottom line is the pricing is too high compared to when it was butera. When the deli meat was so cheap as a Butera, I went sometimes 5-6 times a month and did all my shopping there. Now, probably only produce.
All 3 of the stars I am giving are specifically for the...
Read moreGone are the days of Piggly Wiggly being known as the "emergency stops only" store around Genoa - Butera Market took over and it's a brand new store!
Prices are very reasonable around the store - even for non-sale items. If you're on a budget or trying to feed a bunch of hungry kids - here's the place to shop. When you do the math, between gas mileage and cost of groceries, you will actually SAVE money coming here from other stores in the area.
Produce is fresh and routinely rotated. Deli, the same. Protip: get the fried chicken, it's good and an 8 piece deal is very cheap ($5.99) Unfortunately it doesn't come as a meal, but if you stick to the sale salads you can come out with a good meal for 3 for a very reasonable price.
A concern people had was meat. DON'T BUY THE RUMORS! It's fresh, it's very strictly controlled. And you also get a good bang for your buck - so much so that most other chains will not do ad-matching for Butera meat.
The employees and the vibe are excellent. Expect to be met with positivity and a willingness to help. Make Butera your grocery "home" - you...
Read moreVery disappointed. Stopped in on Wednesday to get some meats. They all went straight into the freezer when I got home. Cooked up Italian sausage tonight for dinner, and sadly discovered it was bad meat. It was in a pot of spaghetti sauce, so had to throw the whole pot of sauce away. Had ground beef on Sunday that was bought and cooked immediately after getting home and it smelled like rotting meat. Have also had chicken and pork in the past that was bad (freezing or cooking immediately after getting home). We gave you several tries, but we don’t have the money or the stomach to waste on any more rotten meat. Not sure if it’s your refrigeration system, or where you get your meat from (giving the benefit of the doubt that you are honest in your food safety). We miss Butera’s quality...
