If you are looking for flower arrangements for a funeral service, you have no need to search any further. Pick up the phone, call Nunan's and ask to speak with their florist, Nick.
I promise, you will NOT be disappointed.
I was overwhelmed by the many tasks associated with planning my sister's funeral services. I knew when it came to her flowers, however, I wanted something very special. But I had trouble expressing my ideas into words. I wanted something colorful but muted, something that celebrated her life but wasn't the usual run-of-the-mill white gladiolus and red roses.
Without showing him photos, Nick knew EXACTLY, what I was seeking. It was as if he looked inside my mind and saw the vision I had for my sister.
On the day of her funeral services, my family headed to the church an hour ahead of schedule. It seemed surprising that we were following a white Nunan's van. The driver was traveling slowly and cautiously, avoiding every pothole, as if the cargo carried inside, was very, very fragile.
I wondered if they were headed to my sister's service?
How surprised I was to see the van pull into the church parking lot and carefully remove several glorious floral arrangements as if they were panes of glass.
Upon entering the church, I was overwhelmed to tears by the beauty of the flowers so carefully prepared for my sister.
They were truly breathtaking.
It was as if Nick had captured the feeling of walking through a lush celestial garden on a glorious, sunny, spring day.
Only a florist who loves what they do; could truly capture this vision and bring it so magnificently to life.
The process was easy, the prices so reasonable for such magnificence, beauty and peace-of-mind.
So, stop looking, pick up the phone, call Nunan's and ask...
Read moreIt’s hard to find such an array of plants, shrubs, and trees so well maintained and at reasonable prices these days. I stopped in to find a once plentiful, now scarce variety of houseplant: the humble spider plant for my cat’s consumption.
I found that, and so much more at Nunan’s and it rivaled another large greenhouse company I know of: Mahoney’s. Except at Mahoney’s it’s as though they knew they could charge top dollar for everything and you’d have to cough it up. Grrrrreat.
At Nunan’s the most diverse plant they have is the corpse flower. Yes, you read correctly. A corpse flower. I didn’t expect it to look quite like it did and if you’re imagining it might be some kind of tropical looking plant you’d be wrong. If you’re imagining it looks like some kind of mini Dr. Seuss-like wide frond palm tree you’d be shockingly right. I won’t go into any more details you’ll have to go see and smell it for yourself.
I’ve also found things like the rare variegated houseplants that everyone’s trying to get their hands on for social media feeds.. various colors, textures, shapes, sights and smells in the relaxing and quiet place among the plant vines.
My spider plants were only $5.99. A nice glazed terracotta single piece planter pot to fit them in was only $8.99. I was extremely pleased with my journey here, and although I only came for a quick errand, I will most definitely be calling on Nunan’s in the future to support small business. Don’t just talk about doing it anymore, go ahead and actually give these hard working botanists your patronage and you won’t be...
Read moreI recently visited here with my aunt who lives in the area. Nunan's has been an excellent place to get some harder-to-find plants like cuphea.
I was impressed with both the variety of plants and the spacious layout.
When I saw their parrot (Jack or Jake, I think..?), I was initially sad and concerned because parrots are extremely socially-dependent birds, so it seemed like he was only there to entertain visitors from a distance and otherwise lived a very lonely and neglected life. It made me feel really sad and upset, which is a very unwelcome and unexpected feeling to come across at a plant nursery.
So I was glad that I asked the clerks about how often they interact with him, because they assured me that they definitely wouldn't let him feel alone, and that his owner spends quality time with him every morning and evening.
So I was super happy that I didn't let myself feel too shy or awkward to ask this somewhat uncomfortable question, since I would have otherwise had an unwarranted negative tinge to my view of this excellent plant nursery 🤙
That said, I know my aunt never asked about the parrot despite feeling sad about it, and I'm sure she's not the only one. I think the store ought to put up a brief, fun snippet alongside his current intro bio to let people know that he's being well cared for, because a lot of folks are going to be too shy to ask, and will just end up thinking negatively of the...
