I visited Best of Everything just last week and spent a good amount of money â so when I saw a mirror listed on Facebook Marketplace, I made a special trip back, excited to shop again.
But the experience I had this time was incredibly jarring.
Shortly after I walked in, a woman working in the store approached me and asked, âAre you looking for something in particular?â I said, âNo, Iâm just here to look at a mirror I saw online.â She walked away, but then returned a couple minutes later and asked me to leave because she said my perfume was bothering her.
There was no signage or warning in the Facebook listing about a fragrance-free policy or scent sensitivities â which I would have absolutely respected if communicated ahead of time. I started recording the interaction at that point, because it was such an uncomfortable situation. Once I did, her tone completely shifted. She became apologetic, started crying, and explained that she had recently beaten breast cancer and had asthma, and that scents were triggering. She even offered me a gift card.
It was one of the most confusing and emotionally uncomfortable retail experiences Iâve ever had.
While I do have empathy for her health situation â and I genuinely hope she continues to recover â the way it was handled made me feel singled out, unwelcome, and honestly⌠bewildered. I quietly left, empty-handed, and unfortunately I wonât...
   Read moreHad a very uncomfortable experience here today for the Christmas open house. Was greeted as soon as I walked in by a woman & everything seemed fine. After walking around the store for a few minutes the same woman that greeted me came up to me stood right in front of me & said she was so sorry that SHE needed to leave the store because she has asthma & perfume bothers her. I was so confused at first why she was telling me this???? It was the most weird uncomfortable interaction & I didnât know what to say. I stood there for a moment super confused why she was telling me SHE needed to leave but then I realized she was hinting at me to leave the store. I felt completely uncomfortable & honestly embarrassed because at that point the other ladies working & other customers in the store were watching this interaction. They need to place a sign at the door giving customers a warning. I have empathy for this woman if she is struggling but it was a very weird & uncomfortable situation & I think could have been handle a little differently. I personally wonât be returning because of this experience but I do hope they fix the issue by letting customers know...
   Read moreI just drove away from this spot, we arrived at 2:46pm, the employee or owner, older, larger, gray hair as we stepped out of our vehicle exclaimed âclosed, closed, everyone closes here at 3pmâ, as we tried to respond and tell her that we were to pick up something she or they were holding, something special for my sick motherâŚbut she continued to talk over us and say âclosedâ repeatedly then to comeback another time.
