The kid working on my truck did great. I watched through window. I went to automotive mechanic school here in Iowa after High School. I was certified for over 5 years and he did everything great and in a timely mater. However, the shop hourly rate is WAY TO EXPENSIVE!!!
The owner took advantage of me since he knew I was from out of state and on a tight deadline.
They charge Marina and dealership prices for automotive work. Shop rate is $99 per hour. Charged me for diagnosis. Sorry but shops here in Iowa do that for free. Just good business.
So the owner said 20 mins for diagnosing when I confronted him about seeing the estimate. Way less time it took then that. We took it for a spin down the road a mile and back and then we put jack under front and lifted it up and took flash light and noticed front rotor was cracked on passenger side. He says he will order front rotor but since it's lunch it will be an hr or longer tell everybody gets back to shop.
I'm sorry but if I was the owner and new this was kind of an emergency situation. I would have brought truck into shop myself and took off tire and rotor myself while waiting for part. Just to help speed up things instead he sat in reception area and talked and joked around while watching his receptionist eat. He didn't even eat. While we were sitting in the waiting room. I started timer as soon as my truck was pulled into shop and lifted on the hoist and they started replacing front passenger rotor. It was lowered back down and retorqued the lug nuts back up. All said and done in 38 mins and 42 seconds.
Now let's say an additional 5 mins to type up bill. Which the owner already had typed up but whatever and a quick 2 min test drive down the road and back to make sure everything felt good.
While we were in waiting room, I called my mechanic shop and told him exactly what was going on and he said you are getting screwed royally!!! He gave me a much more realistic qoute over the phone.
I brought it up to owner and he made several excuses. I could tell he wasn't going to budge since I was an out of towner and he new I had to get going.
So if your an out of towner BEWARE!!! Find another repair shop unless you like to be screwed...
