BE CAREFUL!!!! DANGER ON PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE!!! There is a "speed bump" on the bridge that is the same color as the rest of the wood on the bridge. There is NO indication that it is there. In 1817 the sawmill at Gambo Falls was turned into a gunpowder company that would become The Oriental Powder Company which produced more than one-fourth of the military-grade gunpowder used by the Union forces during the Civil War, but was plagued with tragedy with deaths of 46 men who lost their lives in mill-related explosions and accidents that occurred during the years of gunpowder production at Gambo.
