I left a detailed review on the resorts Google landing page. Beautiful course, amazing design, course is in disrepair tee boxes are unkempt and full of weeds. Fairways are okay the rough is a clover and crab grass factory. Bunkers haven't seen any sort of grounds crew love in a long time. Greens, rolled true but damage from the elements, bare patches and dead spots. Not worth the $70 they're asking for to play 18. Not a course in this kind of shape. To bad because the design and layout is fantastic.
I was able to copy my review from the review section for the resort itself. Here it is:
This going to be a review of Double J's Thoroughbred golf course. Sadly, this once Thoroughbred has been put out to pasture, ironically that's a pretty good discription of the condition of this once gem designed by Arthur Hills. Where to begin and remain constructive but also get my point across that this beautiful track, with wonderful views and a layout that will test every level of golfer. This Thoroughbred is now a neglected sway back ready for the glue factory.
The tee boxes are level but have now filled in with weeds where bent grass once grew. They also haven't seen a proper mowing in probably a week maybe two. Once off the tee you'll see that if you went left or right you'd find yourself in sea of clover, crab grass and various broad leaf weeds.
The fairways were surprisingly in fairly good shape but those too are starting to show weeds coming in.
Sand Traps, these have not seen any sort of regular maintenance in at least a couple seasons, weeds in the bunkers around the unkempt rustic edges. There hasn't been any sort of maintenance by the grounds crew on the bunkers ie raking, fluffing etc.
The greens, they still roll true right up to a beat up, last moved a cpl weeks ago cup. There is a considerable amount of damage from mother nature and being improperly tended to.
Carts, clean, plenty of cubbies and cup holders, they do have ball and club washers on them but ours was bone dry. There was once GPS in the carts but the monitor was gone. There are a couple USB ports in the cart. I did like that they were electric vs gas; not for any reason other than they are faster, smoother and, quieter.
The proshop staff that we interacted with were amazing! Super nice, professional but not robotic. I asked the gal in the proshop about the condition of the course when we made the turn and she said that she had no idea the course was in such bad shape and did say she would let the appropriate people know.
The NEGLECT that this once amazing course is experiencing is UNACCEPTABLE! I'd say that the Double J ownership should make some changes if they are serious about the golf portion of their resort.
If you want to play a track that once WAS amazing and you want to see what happens to a course that that is neglected then give the Double J $70 to experience this first hand, 18 holes at a time. This once Thoroughbred has been neglected so badly into the "sway back" that she now is.

Read moreThis golf course could really be great….but right now it’s not!! I golfed here last season when the rate was $25. They said they had some problems with the greens, we pushed through. I called this week to see if the golf course was back to normal, the lady on the phone said all greens (but 1) was back to normal and they would be charging their normal $50 for 18 holes. If you can see by my pictures 80% of the greens look like these pictures. The greens are still trying to recover and they are aware. They should not be charging $50 for the shape this course is in. Also where they have mowed the rough, there is standing clumps of grass. This course has such potential, but you can tell the management of the double JJ resort doesn’t really put the effort in to make this the championship course it once was. They should lower the rates until the course is back to its full potential, it’s a rip-off at $50. Spend your...
Read moreThe Thoroughbred course was in the worst condition of any course I have played. At noon, on a Saturday in August, the only maintenance that had been done recently was mowing the greens and they were wet and did not have fresh cups cut. The fairways might have been mowed at some time in the last week. The roughs and tees hadn't been mowed for several weeks and the rough was so long in places that you had trouble locating your ball much less playing it out of the crabgrass and clover. There were areas around the greens where the rough was 6-8" long. The tee markers hadn't been moved in weeks and the tees were full of divots in 3-4" long grass and some of the back tees didn't even have turf. There were numerous areas that were saturated due to irrigation system leaks. It's a great design but due to years of neglect it is not a quality course to play. Don't waste your...
