Sorry for the long post, but I wanted to go into detail about my experience since there was a lot going on.
I had originally booked 3 kayaks for 2 hours several weeks ago, but Lonestar Adventure Sports had to raincheck our booking due to inclement weather. I was able to rebook at my convenience using a voucher code they emailed me to use at checkout so I wasn't charged for a second booking. It was very convenient that they gave me complete control over when I rebooked as my sister had to travel in from out of town to join me and my dad, and we had to work around her work schedule.
When I rebooked online, there was an issue at checkout with the code they sent me. It was being flagged as invalid no matter how I put it in (copy/paste, manually typing it in, changing the case of the letters, etc.). I tried calling to get the issue resolved, but no one answered (in their defense, I was calling on a Saturday trying to book for the next day. They were extremely busy!) I was worried I'd loose the slot I was trying to get, so I went ahead an paid for it without the voucher code knowing that there was a chance I wasn't going to get my money back. But my sister was already planning to come into town for this and darn it, we were going kayaking!
When we got there, parking was easy (there is a $10 parking fee, but it gives you access for the entire day and you can come and go as you please) and the place we were supposed to go to check-in and get our gear was very clear. The kayaks, life vests, and paddles were clean and in good condition, and we had a great time paddling around for 2 hours enjoying some rare family time.
When I asked about the issue I had with the online code, the guy (I don't remember his name, sorry!) said that Peter would get it taken care of and gave me a description of who I was looking for. Peter had jumped in to help check people in at that point since they were slammed, but still took a second to hear my problem and assured me that I would be getting a refund within the hour, no questions asked. And sure enough, within an hour I got an email with my full refund with no fuss! I was prepared to have to argue and show proof of the issue to get any kind of refund, but they handled the situation easily and with great professionalism!
I'm planning on purchasing my own kayak eventually, but until then Lonestar Adventure Sports has got...
Read moreI rented 3 kayaks from Lonestar Adventure. I will never rent from this company again as I had a very poor experience from start to finish. Be aware, the fee to enter the parking lot is $10 per car that enters. When we arrived at the location, there was a police officer blocking our entry to the park. After calling 5-6 times over the span of 15 minutes, finally someone answered the phone to inform us to drive past the officer (even though the officer had told us we were unable to enter). After we entered the park and walked up to the employees, not a single one greeted us or even made eye contact with us. When they did decide to acknowledge we had entered, they were extremely rude and unhelpful and the FOUR of them there continued to sit and not help us get checked in. Don't worry about bringing your license and ID like their email says, because the only thing you need is your phone to complete the waiver. If you don't have your phone, you are unable to kayak because they don't offer paper versions (or warn you in advance to bring your phone to complete the waiver). The employee argued with me about what was included in the reservation (even though it clearly stated it on my email) and when we finally got to the water, they handed us life jackets and pointed at our boats. There was no additional information, help getting in the water, etc. It is amazing that with four employees sitting in lawn chairs, not a single one of them...
Read moreThis past weekend I rented a two-person kayak from Lonestar Adventure Sports on Lake Grapevine.
My dad and I were looking for a kayak rental place anywhere in the DFW area - and Lonestar Adventure Sports seemed to be one of the only options on my Google Search.
I booked my kayak online and also completed the waiver forms, which is advisable to do online and in advance.
FYI, to enter the park area and get to the Lonestar Adventure Sports location, you need to pay a $10 park entry fee to get into Rockledge Park. So you will need to add this to the cost of your rentals. This fee allows access to the park, which offers pavilions and covered picnic areas if you wish to utilize them before or after your watersports activity.
When we parked, it was a short walk to the check-in desk near the lake.
Getting our kayak was fast and easy, and the two young men working at the facility were friendly, knowledgeable and efficient.
We got our lifejackets, which must be worn at all times, and headed down to the launch area.
We spent about an hour on the lake - in my opinion, there is not that much to see to spend more than two hours in a kayak.
Please note that there are no kayak rentals if winds are strong (over 18 mph). You can also rent stand-up paddleboards from Lonestar Adventure...
