Their "rules" weren't communicated to me when I made the birthday party reservation! I planned some snack-y type food and drinks; spending lots of time and money! 3 days prior I was called for reconfirmation and learned one of the rules is NO outside food or drinks. That would've been helpful to know in the BEGINNING! No negotiations were offered even after the manager admitted she may have forgot to tell me. (After mama bear calmed down) I decided to consume our snacks during the super bowl, but would take my pinterest "Frozen" crafted bottles of gatorade labeled "frozen water" to give as party favors. They were waiting for me at check-in to see if I had any food/drink. I was asked not to bring it in, but I proceeded anyway and asked them to just hold at the front desk. Couldn't they have thought of that with their customer service skills? No one greeted me, thanked me, showed me where to go, explained anything to me.....nada. The birthday child surprise is a joke and they roll a dice to see which birthday party gets the rink to skate all by their selves. Our party didn't hit the jackpot in more ways the one. I am a mom of three, am very involved in the community, and know all about customer service from owning my own business. This place is an absolute joke. They have no sales skills, no personality, and I plan to tell every single person who asks to avoid this place. FYI-I'm not some crazy, lunatic mother with Disney world expectations, however I am an honest and fair person who believes when you make a mistake, you make it right AND you make people feel welcome at your place of business. Thank goodness my 8 year old was clueless! Hope this helps you make the...

There's very little done for the flow of traffic other than blowing a whistle if you hit a mere 10 mph.
That would even be fine... IF I didn't see 12+ incidents of kids dropping cell phones cutting 90° across lanes of traffic, going the wrong way or wrong way + 90° heh... but this was entirely overlooked while competent skaters operating in control were whistled down constantly.
Look if you can't manage your alls floor and announce basic skate ettiquite such as slower skaters to the inside faster to the outside.. maybe ya need some help from more experience ld owner/operators.. this setup is conducive for organizing the flow of traffic where less incidents happen AND this leads to a wider range of skill diversity being served.. maybe better management skills are needed so you actually end up with competent skaters which instill a newer skater with the awe that makes them want to come back.
Ontop of that you'll be able to readily pick out those who are skating above their capacities when the traffic is organized.
But what really threw me for a loop was that the FLOOR GUARD was cutting across lanes of traffic at a 90° and literally not watching where he was going. But blowing the whistle at people in control with ample room.. gotta be kidding me 🤣
Guess you can't blame kids/patrons when the guard/management has...
Read moreI've skated for about 50 years. Yes, I'm still skating. This place used to be pretty good, but they are in dire need of improvements. The biggest issue is their carpet. The carpet is old and during the summer, the heat causes the glue to stick to your wheels, especially if you use softer wheels. I have to clean my wheels every time I skate here.
They also DON'T clean the wheels of their rental skates or if they do, its not very often. Most of the wheels are caked in black, dirty glue.
Their music selection is basically bubblegum and not much else. They play a lot of slower songs that make you want to sit down and think about skating to better music.
They need more, quality video games.
The air conditioning is lacking. Its always too warm in the building, even when its not crowded.
The best thing about Skateland USA west is their floor. I love skating on wooden floors and they do take care of the floor.
I was planning on giving them two stars, but while I was writing this review, after cleaning my wheels again, I won the lucky number dice game for a free pass. So there's that.
It's the only place to skate in this area. They'll lose much of thier business when something better comes along.
Our old skating rink in Roanoke did a lot more to keep things exciting - more games, dancing in the center, song requests, play area,...
